For those who want Dogmeat to be named 'Dogmeat' rather than 'Dog', you'll have to either talk to Mama Murphy when you first help them in Concord, or Nick will name drop Dogmeat when you begin to track Kellogg.
Those are the only times I know Dogmeat gets named.
Edit: Ok correction, Nick gets YOU to name drop Dogmeat in the dialog option, but funfact: if you avoid Dogmeat and get to quest "Getting a Clue", Nick will call Dogmeat and act like he's known Dogmeat for a while with unique dialog. -

Wow I do not miss how bad the shorthand dialogue has to be. "You own here?" is not normal English, but it's the best and only way to distill the actual dialogue down to that shorthand choice system. Playing with Full-Length XDI makes interactions with this character feel like they were plucked from a different, better, fallout game.

How does Al freakin make up random parody songs like that out of nowhere? I mean I can come up with 1 or 2 lines but Al does like a whole verse.
