  • Sunshine is an underrated masterpiece - it’s a film made for cinema screens, watched it 3 times on the theater and each time it was a better experience
  • @TheNameIsChrisP
Sunshine also has one of the best film scores of all time; so good that it's also used in climactic scenes in other movies like Kick-Ass and Wonder Woman 2.
  • @thrice87
I can’t believe Sunshine is getting some love. It is such an underrated gem. One of the best sci-fi movies ever made.
  • @davidcsimon
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. An underappreciated masterpiece made in 2003 with flawless VFX that still stand up today. It was WETA's first project after finishing Lord of the Rings, and featured a perfect blend of CGI, miniatures, studio sets, and full-scale ship replicas (one mounted on an enormous gimble) to depict naval warfare in the age of sail. Nothing has matched it since.
  • I was lucky enough to see Sunshine on the huge true Imax screen at London's Science Museum in March this year as part of their Science Fiction Film festival. It had a video introduction from Cillian Murphy and a Q&A hosted by the BBC's "Sky at Night" host, Maggie Aderin-Pocock with the film's director, Danny Boyle and the science consultant, Professor Brian Cox. You can imagine how amazing it was to see a pristine print up on that huge screen with the booming sound system - and the Q&A was just as illuminating ;-) - truly an amazing night out at the cinema.

That Poltergeist 3 mirror shot is incredible. The creativity that goes into creating practical effects like that continues to blow my mind.
  • @4RILDIGITAL
Wow, absolutely blown away by your breakdown of these visual effects! Sunshine really is a gem and your detailed look into the sun CGI rendering threw a whole new light on things. 😀 It's amazing to think about the amount of planning that goes into every aspect, down to the minute details of light and colour reflection. Can't wait to see what you review next!
  • Good to see Sunshine having some love. From the very first time I watched it, it instantly became one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. It's tense, it's dramatic, sometimes scary. Such a masterpiece.
  • @luckypup4686
With Oppenheimer releasing on digital next week, it would be cool if you guys reacted to the practical effects used in the film.
  • @craigrussell3062
Sunshine deserves so much more love as brilliant sci-fi. Same creepy, claustrophobic vibe of doom as the original Alien. I will always get chills at the scene where they're walking through the floating dust of the dead crew and it flashes single frames of them alive.
  • @ekojar3047
I love sunshine. I remember when it came out. It was like our version of interstellar for mid 2000s Highschool kids. YouTube was still very new to most of America. It was a special time for sure
  • FIREFLY and SERENITY. The opening shot of Serenity where it transitions from the Universal logo to the apocalyptic Earth is done really well, and the shot around the 10 minute mark where they're entering atmosphere feels so real. Also! I LOVE the fact that throughout the entire series, there is no sound in space. The only audio during space scenes is either dialog or MAYBE music, but rarely.
  • @dylankarn9260
It'd be fun to see you guys do a practical effects challenge amongst yourselves!
  • @colburn888
17:24 The opening shot was specifically planed to resemble the eye with iris closing when exposed to bright light such as the sun. Also the whole docking sequence is amazing SFX work.
  • @ResidentKen
I’m so glad you’re covering Sunshine. SUCH an underrated movie
  • @lujho
The Battleground stuff being so good makes more sense when you realize it’s Brian Henson directing. Obviously pushing the envelope in this area is kind of in his blood.
  • @subn0rma1
you guys should invite Scott from "Scott prop and roll" along with Adam savage for an episode of "propmasters react". Have them bring their favorite props in, too. Props can be "visual effects" too, right? They are a physical form of tricking the camera into seeing something that isn't actually there.
  • @nuxxdk
Aside from the gorgeous visuals… Sunshine’s score is also a colab with Underworld (of Trainspotting OST fame) - just about one of the best electronic groups out there, providing it just incredible ambience to underpin the melancholic plot.
