I feel something that goes a bit unsaid here is how many of this game's levels only work because it's 1 player. Going forward the series would be largely marketed as a multiplayer game and that required a completely different take on level design, leading to areas being much more spacious among other things. Changing the player count inherently changes the game and that sort of lead to this game being even more unique compared to it's derivatives.

Mario vs. Luigi is 10/10 multiplayer, probably one of the bests I ever played. I miss playing it with my cousins and friends at school
  • @JoeVO24
the multiplayer aspect of the game was awesome, they let you play the minigames with other people and it felt like a sorta "mario party" if you will. and the vs mode where mario and luigi beat the shit out of each other....the ability to use ds download.....good times......
  • @OmarAlikaj
I see you're finally getting to this game as promised. This was even my first DS game and, despite the graphics, I probably liked this way more than the Wii game.
  • Some of my favorite memories are playing Mario vs Luigi in this game with my brother on long car rides. That alone makes this one of my favorite games.
  • @GearsLGLF
Experiencing this game upon release in high school was a formative memory for me. There are countless tales of people sitting around the cafeteria talking about games and hidden secrets in the 90s, but NSMB was that game in the mid 00s. I have the fondest memories of this game, and the hype was so real when it came out.
  • @TheChimera70
this was the first DS game I ever owned! I love seeing it get more attention, makes me think of simpler times
  • @AbstraktNG
This was my childhood. I remember playing this game so much as a kid and sharing it with my older brother
  • This is the first game I can remember playing, I was a tiny child. I’d start a new file every other week or so and just play through it again I loved it so much. I’m glad it was my introduction to Mario games and video games in general :D.
  • @roxtechs
Literally my first video game. This game will always have a soft spot in my heart.
  • @Mr-Opium
This game shaped my life. My mom got it for me cause she recognized the name Mario and I thank her everyday for it. I 100% it and never had as much fun as I had playing it
  • @Keanine
NSMB is easily my favourite in the "New" series. It's the most experimental and takes the most risks, and the level design feels compact and everything feels like it has a purpose. By comparison the console entries especially often felt sparse and empty. I actually prefer NSMB2 over Wii and U for similar reasons, however it's no where near the pedigree of the first game. In fact, NSMB feels more like SMB5 than part of the New series, and for that I love it. It's also a huge bonus that NSMB has unique bosses, along with challenges like beating said bosses with the mini-mushroom. Why the sequels never tried something unique like this instead of Koopaling/Bowser Jr fights is beyond me. My personal series rating: NSMB NSMB2 NSMBWii NSMBU (U is the only game I never finished because I was so bored by the level design)
  • @ShoryuInACan
I honestly don't know if it's my brain autocorrecting to hear Alex's voice when Jirard does his impression of him, or if Jirard's just known Alex for so long that he's perfected Alex's unique mannerisms and inflection... Well, either way I love it when he does it.
  • I think new super Mario bros 2 is heavily underrated. The music is killer and the art design is different then the wii and wii u version. I know this game is very easy but for me I think it makes the game even better in my opinion
  • @browncow5210
Completing this one's all well and good, but has anyone ever sat down with a friend and done the multiplayer? It's surprisingly really fun!
  • I’ll be curious to hear your take on NSMB2. I think it’s grossly underrated. The emphasis on coin collecting changes the way you view stages, even though that strikes me as a more Wario thing than Mario. Plus, the golden fire flower is a total blast.
  • You can't forget to talk about the multiplayer mode. Amazingly competitive
  • This was my first DS game. I remember as a kid going through and getting all star coins and the secret worlds. It’s also where I did my first speed run, as a kid my fastest time was 2 hours and 37 mins. Such great times
