A playthrough of Capcom's 1989 platformer for the NES, Mega Man 2.

This video has been replaced by a brand new 4K playthrough. Please check that out instead!    • Mega Man 2 (NES) Playthrough

Played through on the "difficult" setting.

Mega Man 2 is (obviously) the second game in Capcom's famed series, and an improvement on the original in every conceivable way. Mega Man 2 was the first game to feature a full eight robot masters for the first stage, and it expanded upon Mega Man's array of powerups for some interesting puzzle elements. I really liked those bits toward the end the end of the game - even if foolishly wasting a weapon would completely screw you in certain places. How I raged at that boss with the destructable walls as a kid!

While not quite as refined as the third game, Mega Man 2 is one of the best platformers released for the NES. It absolutely crushed it with amazing graphics, sound, and well-tuned gameplay... even if it is quite a bit easier than the first game.

If you haven't played it yet, what are you waiting for?

If you have, go play it again. No matter how recently you have gone through it, it always deserves another game. Even if you risk breaking your controllers at those disappearing block sections.

This soundtrack is legendary, it’s far and away the best of the whole NES saga. The “guitar”-solo in Air Man’s stage might be the best part of any song in any Mega Man game.

I had never played the first Mega Man back in the day, but as soon as I saw this game in Nintendo Power, I knew I had to have it. Bought it with my birthday money when it came out in the summer of 89. I have fond memories of my best friend and the time and I having a sleepover and staying up to beat it. I also remember we thought Mega Man had died at the end, given how he just kind of fades away, leaving only his helmet, and how the music playing while he was walking sounded kind of sad. Lots of memories tied to this one.
  • As amazing as the first Mega Man was, Mega Man 2 blew everyone away with just how much of an improvement it was over the original. Can you really call yourself an NES fan if you haven't played this classic?

Megan man 2 music best of all time 10/10 for me live this game

Two-shotting Metal Man with his own blade always cracks me up.
  • I do so love Mega Man 2, and the soundtrack is nothing short of legendary. What can I say that those 80s kids who praised this to Hell and back haven't? Nintendo Power and all those old dudes say that Mega Man 2 is their favorite in the series, as it introduced all the mainstay elements like 8 instead of 6 Robot Masters and the Wily Castle map screens and the spiritual predecessor to Rush, the "Items". Who doesn't dig MM2? It's great. A little on the easy side, but awesome to play, even today.

I can complete this game straight from memory. One of the few games I'm still able to do so (once upon a time, I could beat Mike Tyson no problem. Not anymore). Still has the best music from the entire series, too.

I swear everything you said in your description is accurate as hell. This one is my favorite in the series but I don't blame anyone for liking part 3 more. When I was a kid, I was blown away by these graphics. I felt like I was playing a cartoon. But you are right, those bosses at wilys castle are unfair. I absolutely hate that wall and even the last guy, though fairly easy, can get you raged if you don't have the bubble. The music is some of the best the nes has to offer. Wilys castle alone is proof of that.

This game, Mega Man 2, was on a VHS tape with tips and tricks on getting a high score. It was some of those Kodak VHS video tapes. It had Wizards & Warriors, Mega Man 2, Platoon, Top Gun & Metal Gear. It was called How to Score More Points On Nintendo Games #1 in 1989.

This game completely changed my youth!! I was addicted to this game and the music is fantastic!
  • Wow. The nostalgia! Pure magic back then. Remember getting this for Christmas the year it was released, and I just couldn't believe it! Total happiness! What a fantastic, amazing game. One of the best ever made for NES. Spent countless hours with it. And got pretty good I think ;-) And the music! Just sticks with you even to this day, doesn't it? Epic. Such a well made game. Thanks for posting this!

This game is geniously designed, and the ost is incredibly memorable. Not an nes fan till you've played every second of this game.

Its insane how powerful the Metal Blade is

This game is still my favorite of the series. I think a lot of it is nostalgia, but every time I play it also just feels so good, and the music is perfect. I actually got it first, because the original was such a limited release in the States. But when they re-released Megaman I went out and got it. I was pretty disappointed at first, since it had two less robot masters and not even a picture of a Wily Castle. But I grew to appreciate the magnet beam and the abilities of the weapons and the difficulty. Never did like that "sliding" bug when trying to stop after picking up a power-up capsule, though.

One of my favorite games as a kid. Never got past the dragon. Just watching it now brought up memories of Nintendo frustration.
  • @scottbeard1156
The metal-man blade is the most over-powered weapon in the game, I always went there first or second after air man. You can pretty much waste every other stage and boss with him except for quick and crash man. Try bubble man against heat man next time. Much easier.
  • Very classy to let all the credits play out! This closing song is my jam, Son!
