I noticed a big trend with YouTube gardeners and homesteaders lately and that is they really only promote a couple different seed companies. The big ones I hear talked about are Bakers Creek and MIgardener. I decided that I wanted to push a few other companies into the light for everyone that I believe are right up there with the quality of Baker Creek and MIgardener. So in today's video I talk about Ohio Heirloom Seeds. I made a purchase from them for this coming spring. They had a bean variety I have been wanting to try out and also some microgreens. My best find though was a tomato I have never heard of before and that had some cool history to it. This company has great prices and the shipping cost is top notch. Check them out and show some love to some of the lesser known seed companies out there, because the more seed companies we can keep growing the more we can grow the food independence movement.

Thank you so much for sharing the "little guys". I love to support them.
  • I will check them out. Anymore seed companies, keep us posted. We like the seed packets also. Like back to earth. Plain and simple.
  • I was noticing the same thing Josh. I never buy from one or two companies. It would be cool if folks in each state did a promo for seed and plant companies that do mail order in their state so they can get support from around the US. We gave herb companies here in Oregon that do seeds and plants and others too. I've mentioned some of them before. I really like the way you are going over the details. I grow the sorrel you mentioned. It is more commonly called blood sorrel. It's perennial and easy to grow. I cut it back hard after it flowers so I get more leaves. It's really a great plant for containers and quite pretty as an accent plant for anyone interested in using it for that kind of thing. I found it tastes different than standard sorrel, but hey, pretty works for me. I've never heard of the Garfield tomato either...hmmm...interesting. Thanks for sharing the info. Great video.
  • Great video again Josh. I am all for the underdog and you did a great job of noting their selling points with no seed catalog, being a smaller seed company, and their many attributes. I will be sure to check out their website. Bigger is not always better. I had god luck with a couple of seed packets that I got in your seed swap last year...the Chadwick cherry tomatoes and the Cleo England flower seeds, AND the white cycles.
  • Super cool of you to support smaller companies in your spotlight videos. Perfectly solid seed companies just don't have the reach of massive seed empires. Yes, we've noticed that Baker Creek does seem to be a major trend in YouTube videos. That being said, we do usually purchase seeds from Baker Creek as they are our local seed source. (We live about 5 miles away.) I also love their generous nature with donating all seed sales for certain time periods to disaster relief throughout the year. The thing that attracted us initially to make our first order years ago was the large sum of money they donated when our entire home state of Nebraska was under water. I think this is the true reason why so many people get behind them and stay loyal.
  • Sounds like a great company. We’ll be sure to check them out and see what they offer. Looks like you got some good seeds from them. Nice T-shirt! 😁
  • Thank you for promoting this company! I'm only about half an hour away from them & didn't even know they existed. I'll certainly be checking them out.
  • Thanks for sharing! I think the president tomatoes was a cool story, and also the thing you said about the seeds being able to be true. I’ll have to watch this again to remember those details. :D
  • I found several seeds on this site that I already planned on buying, but they were quite a bit less expensive here. Thank you for pointing this company out!
  • @UT33200
Will have to check that place out as well. Some really cool and exciting varieties to see. 2020 grow season is still a tiny bit off but I can feel the excitement building in the community. Really like the idea of these videos as well. Thanks for the share!
  • Thank you for sharing this company i am cheking it out right now as i watch you talk about it! I love yellow tomatoes as well! I will have to try those tomatoes ! Garden nerding is all of us who love gardening so your not alone ☺
  • Love this, I did not know of them and I will definitely shop for seeds from Ohio Heirloom Seeds, Thanks for sharing this info.
  • @grannybee6805
Thanks for such a good review. Lots of good info, too.
  • I will check them out. Thanks for sharing a new seed company with us. And bonus for me they are fellow buckeyes. P.S. I will have to see if they offer garlic, need to start scouting out places to buy from. 😂😉
  • That company looks sweet. That's a very dangerous position being against seed catalogues. 😆
  • Thank you for sharing Josh, I didn't come across that one when i researched my list. I will check them out as I need to order from a small vendor or two. Keep up the great work.
  • Hello my fellow Stive Tribe Member!!! I love that you are doing this I like to highlight my AZ Seed Expo here. They don't have a store they just do a expo once a year to sell seeds but you get a ton of seeds for so cheap.
