  • A recent posting for a teacher in Houston ISD - 85K with a 10K bonus. It was for a head fine arts teacher at a high school so after-school activities would be necessary. But it's hard to look at this and see a pay raise is necessary. It's the rural area teachers that receive the State minimum salary of around 33K that need support.

FINALLY, after HISTORIC TAX INCREASES !
  • Thank you for covering this. Now a couple comments: 1.) The "month's free rent" is actually very likely to happen, especially in the greater Austin area. Why? Well, it's not because property taxes are going down. No. It's because there are thousands of new units "coming online" within the next year or less. It's "Economics 101 - Supply and Demand." Rent in the greater Austin area for apartments has already decreased in many places since New Years 2023. Austin did have a similar situation in the timeframe of 2008 - 2012 when many apt. buildings were offering 1 or more free months of rent, again due to supply/demand issues. Economics actually works when gov't stays out of the way. 2.) There is a reason why the gov't could only promise this tax relief for 3 years. It is not due to politics . It is due to the magnitude of the current budget surplus which is funding this. It is not an infinite supply. It is a limited supply. But we in Texas are in a real minority in America; how many state gov's are lowering their property taxes? Can you name any? Therefore the fact that Texas is actually going to do this for 3 years is astonishing and outstanding. This is not just "campaign promises" -- this is going to make an actual difference to Texan's annual savings.
  • @KB-ip8ld
Raising cap 10% is bad which will raise values too much
  • @lindarussell6311
They get annual raises just like everyone else. They got some extra money a few years ago.
  • @kristisbeach
Teacher pay raises shouldn't be a bargaining chip! =(
