If you think your guitar picking sucks, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Guitar picking was something I’ve struggled with for a long time before I finally realized what kind of picking practice and picking exercises are needed to get a good handle on that technique.

Now that I’ve discovered them and since put them to the test, I am passing down to you a picking exercise that will clean up your guitar picking in no time!

This lesson will be pretty straightforward, I’m going to show you a particular picking exercise that is going to get your alternate picking clean, even, and precise.

But while it’s tempting to work speed into picking exercises like this, we want to focus more on the precision and movement of our picking hand.

So I’ll show you this picking exercise and break it down for you, piece-by-piece, and go over the exact picking movements to get through each part. After that, all you have to do is repeat the picking exercise as many times as it takes to get the overall feel of your picking practice.

We’ll even go over a little hack to get your guitar picking much cleaner as you go across all of your strings!

By the end of the lesson you’ll have more than enough tools for picking practice to get your picking far, far out of the “suck” category and start making some serious progress.

✅ AND SPEAKING OF PROGRESS!! Find out your #1 Guitar Progress Killer for FREE and break on through to the other side of guitar playing freedom: www.guitarmasterymethod.com/progress-killers?hcate…

👆 In a matter of minutes that survey will show you exactly what it is that’s been holding you back from progressing with guitar. I don’t want anything standing in the way of getting your guitar picking in tip-top shape.

Once you find out what your progress killer is, you can tackle it head on and launch your guitar playing to the next level!

Rock On!

How to hold the pick is such a basic skill, but most teachers barely mention it, even though for adult beginners it is really a challenge. I think we see too many possibilities. Great lesson, thanks.
  • @aldenunion
Great tutorial, just picked up an electric for first time in 41years. Acoustic ruled me all those decades.

Brilliant tips Eddie. Your lesson has got to be the best I have come across. And you hit the nail on the head when saying, "a powerful new exercise".
  • @SSGSINCLAIR
I have to comment that your teaching , speed (slow) , and explanations of what you are doing is amazing. I look forward to many more lessons from you!

Eddie, you are one of the best instructors I have ever seen/heard. You take nothing for granted in ones knowledge and motivate me to practice practice practice with nothing missing in what and how I should proceed. Thank you so much and Guitar Mastery Method will retain me as a life long learner! Rock on Brother!

great video, man. straight to the point. you saved the jokes and ads to the end. that is precious. thanks a lot. I'm a left-handed who plays right-handed. a few years away from the guitar made my picking technique real lousy. thanks again <3
  • @ivvalk
Hey, thanks for the video! Especially for the quality and camera angles, very illustrative examples!
  • @danbalmer1
Great lesson as always and addresses yet another of my issues. Having a scale to follow is very helpful. Hope you can do a lesson on the disobedient , slow left hand pinky sometime, as this is one of my biggest issues slowing me down along with inaccurate picking.
  • Thanks you. This is one of the best fast picking techniques on YouTube I've ever seen.
  • Great lesson Eddie! This is harder than it looks! But I can definitely see how it will bring results! Thanks!
  • @cluelessfishing
If you actually look at the way you are picking, you may notice that not only are you doing as you said, but you are also angling the pick while you are picking. Which in turn will create a glancing motion on the string.
  • I do suck at picking and I really like this exercise...you're a good teacher.
  • @Hallow334
Great lesson Eddie! Just taking the tips you gave, I can see a difference in the accuracy and speed of my picking. I think my biggest weakness is endurance when picking fast for extended runs. This is a great workout to develop endurance. I just move up one fret and play it again and repeat. Shameless plug! I recommend people sign up for Guitar Mastery Method! I'm a VIP member and love it! Eddie is a great instructor!
