the one thing I DON'T miss about the 90s...

Never ever thought this sound would make me smile..
  • I’m a teacher, and if my classroom ever gets too rowdy, I play this… nice and loud. The looks of sheer confusion on their faces are enough to bring happy tears to my old lady eyes. “Ya hear that, kids?! That’s Mrs. M trying to sign onto AOL in 1995! … Uh oh! My sister is trying to call her friend so I got kicked off? Maaaaan, I wish we had a second phone line!”
  • I fall asleep to this sound in my 30’s… brings me to a time of safety, wonder, and innocence.
  • Happens every time my teacher asks me to answer a question
  • I'm still on AOL dial-up...this video took me 4 hours to load.

I’m literally crying 🤣🤣🤣 I miss these days Omg!
  • I'm only 35 but this clip makes me feel way old. This was the sound of excitement, of learning, of possibilities when I was a kid. So hard to believe I lived nearly the first 10 years of my life without having any access to internet. Heaven forbid it goes down for a single minute, I'm in a panic restarting every network device.
  • And here I am watching this video on a four inch screen that instantly receives a connection twenty times faster than what's shown in the video.
  • We mock it now, but considering the time, less than 35 seconds to connect to the internet was rather impressive 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I remember hearing this sound as a kid and loving it! To me, it felt like some kind of alien communication. I will always love and appreciate these sounds.

I love how in the dialup days, software developers and engineers assumed everyone wanted to listen to modems talking to each other as much as they did, rather than coming up with some other series of sounds to represent a connection. 😆
  • "KIDS! NOBODY TOUCH THE PHONE!" - My dad back in '99 ;)
  • @BuddhaCat
My goodness, I remember this horrific sound like it was yesterday. You gotta get through this awful sound to hear the MAGICAL sound "You've Got Mail"! Just make sure no one picks up the phone in your house!!!
  • @Guap303
Nothing was louder than this sound at 11 at night trying to log online while everyone is asleep.
  • @WardySnow
Honestly, I'd do anything to go back to these times.
  • Oops! Someone called you. Better start that shit over again!
  • There are very few huge corporations that I have any genuine fondness or nostalgia for. AOL is one of them. It was an excellent and efficient service that brought digital commication to the common man like the torch of Prometheus. The chat rooms were great. The software was well engineered. Computer nerddom owes AOL an apology. The demise of that brand with the Advent of high speed cable honestly makes me sad. I would wear an AOL t shirt.

Played this for my 9 year old just now. Explained what the significance was behind the sounds. She literally asked: “How did your generation survive?”
