Archbishop Desmond Tutu, then Bishop of Johannesburg, spoke at Stanford University's Memorial Auditorium for the first national Martin Luther King Day holiday on January 21, 1986. He described the evils of Apartheid, emphasized the importance of economic sanctions, and described other actions Americans could take to help end the racist system.
