Press conference with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola following their 1-1 draw, subsequently lost on penalties, to Real Madrid in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.

He says he has no regrets as his side did everything they could to win the game, how he picks the players up ahead of a huge game at the weekend, whether he felt confident ahead of this match, whether he felt Bernardo was at all distracted, whether he considered leaving De Bruyne on the pitch, whether he was surprised how deep Madrid played, what explanation he can give for not being able to beat Madrid, whether he feels Madrid v City is the new "Classico of Europe", says that City played well but paid the price for not being able to score and talks about facing teams that play a low block as Madrid did tonight.

Pep is an example of a great coach, he isn’t sore, always gives credit and never judges how teams play against him, as a madridista, I salute his professionalism
  • @otterpoopie
A lot of people here hating on City, but both teams played great. Whoever wrote off Madrid need to check themselves, because Madrid will always be there, irregardless if they aren’t as stacked as other teams. You could have a chicken coaching Madrid and yet they will always be there to snatch the game away from you.

Few days ago, barca fans said we have 4 coaches who were part of Barcelona, and 3 of them lost thier matches😂😂😂😂
  • Pep will never get a heart attack because his heart isn't stupid enough to attack him

I'm reading a lot of comments saying that RM parked the bus and waited only for clutch moments to attack. I mean this was a knockout match with a tied aggregate and Madrid were playing against a formidable opponent in their home-ground. What do you expect? Any strategy/tactic to win within the fairplay limits is acceptable. After 10 years, people will talk about the trophies in the team's cabinet rather than who played a game that was more enjoyable to watch! Madrid played deeper than they normally do and waited patiently for City to drop, relied on long balls and that did enough to put dent into City's scoresheet. It was a defensive masterclass. As far as City are concerned, they played a more dominant football but the thing that was bothersome was that no one took chances from outside the box except for KDB (seeing how their attempts were being efficiently blocked inside), and relied too much on short passes even inside the box. Some of them could've been converted had someone taken the chance. 18 corners and somehow we couldn't find the net. Haaland ghosted as usual. His contributions are miniscule unless the ball linked up to him by the midfield lands straight to his body. People comparing him to Messi need a reality check. Messi in his prime dribbled the ball away from 2-3 defenders who were constantly onto him, made a lot of solo runs after dispossessing ball from his opponents. Haaland, despite his size, couldn't get Rudiger alone off of his balls in the first leg. Pep is an absolute legend but his puritanical approach to dominating the game with absolute possession could benefit from some variations during days like these. But he wouldn't see otherwise or admit it since it's so deeply etched into his DNA now. City played a great game nonetheless and Madrid had to use every minute of their past experience to hold them back. The performances worth noting from yesterday's game by City: Walker (his one-on-one with Vini alone saved us a goal or two), Akanji, KDB, Grealish and Doku (Doku breaking through the Madrid wall with his dribbling changed the game).
  • I am a Real Madrid fan, a type that hates most of the Barcelona players. I somehow respect Pep, regardless of his Barca past and DNA, but I like the way he sees football and really respect him as a coach. I always like listening to what he has to say about the pre games and stuff like that. Hala Madrid!
  • @AMA-wm7wy
Absolutely class manager , you know for sure next season we'll be there
  • @zee7718
    Doku changed the game innit
  • @besserheigoo
That’s how to win against city. Tough game well played🤝
  • @yujinwei
2 big chances in the box, one from KDB, one from Foden, when they missed i had the feeling city would not advance to next round.
  • @user-yu7ko6do4k
The best team lost and I am a united fan! Pep is a class act and Madrid are a champions league machine who should never be wrote off
