Eternals was nothing less than a visual spectacle. It gave us many unforgettable moments and raised many questions as well. One of those questions was about Ikaris' betrayal – Why did Ikaris betray his team? We saw him turning against his own family. First, he betrays Ajak and becomes the reason for her death. And soon, when the whole team comes to know about the emergence, Ikaris betrays everyone. And soon we get Ikaris vs Eternals battle. Ikaris fights with Makkari, Thena, Phastos and the others. But in doing that, he was actually right.

Technically the eternals betrayed ikaris, who did exactly what he was supposed to do. The others caught feels and went against their creator.

He didn't betray them, They betrayed the true purpose of their whole nature this was a complete Grey topic . They were truly "betrayed" by Ajax who purposely kept them in the dark from the start about their true purpose .
  • I can well understand, and sympathise with, why Ikaris betrayed the Eternals and tried to make sure that the Emergence happened. For thousands of years Ajax told him that's what his purpose was, it was as said in the video why he couldn't stay with Sersi even though he loved her as he would have eventually told her the truth and that would have broken her heart so he spared her the pain - and sacrificed his own happiness - of it by leaving her. From his perspective he sacrificed everything to fulfil his purpose as Ajax wanted - only for at the end Ajax to change her mind and suddenly want to stop it all. Thus its understandable why he did what he did. Hopefully he'll be back in the future or if he did die Arisham recreates him and he can have a redemption arc.

Yes , bring Ikaris back in Eternals 2 or other future mcu movies.
  • i love sersi and ikairs chemistry, they literally promoting sersi and ikairs are the immortal soulmates. i hope they end up together at some point in the future

I am on Ikaris side. Besides the rest didn't want to stop the emergence for humanity alone, they have their own selfish reasons too. They stopped the great cycle of life in the universe because they caught feelings.

Part of me knew he was the villain, and the other half wanted me to deny it.

Technically he didn’t betray the eternals. The eternals betrayed him and their true purpose.

Your duty vs love argument opened my eyes. I only watched Eternals once so I'm still a little confused if I'm satisfied or not, but i hope the phase 4 and 5 will make the Eternals and this movie even better.

I basically loved everything about Eternals but I definitely would’ve loved to see more of Richard madden as Ikaris. I heard that Salma Hayek (Ajak) and Don Lee (Gilgamesh) did get multiple movie contracts which makes me incredibly happy! But I hope Ikaris (and maybe even sprite too) will return eventually.

Tbh I think what Ikaris did in this whole movie was right. If I was told for 2000 years that my purpose was to help my creator to end the world and I couldn’t tell that to the girl I loved more than myself and that's why I had to leave her only to find out that my leader changed her mind suddenly and tell me to stop helping my creators purpose. I would have killed my leader at that moment bcz of him/her I gave up everything only to find out that I have to do another thing would have pissed me off really bad. And at the end I couldn’t have kill my love bcz She is my humanity. She is everything. That's why I think the movie was deep and beautiful. I just hope ikaris comes back we really need him against kang or celestial. The Avengers will need him.

Ikarus was one of the few highlights of this movie. It's kind of annoying that all the most interesting characters are dead by the end of it.
  • If Ikaris doesn't come back... then I don't want it. I loved Ikaris and I LOVE the idea of a redeption, Ikaris reborn. He needs to come back.
  • He is not a villain. He was doing his job. The others were attached to the world.
  • @nobita3378
ikaris just a man who really committed with his job
  • @JBDNFT
I think "VILLIAN" is an oversimplification
  • SPOILER I was really bummed when they made Ikarais the villain. It was a fine twist but I wanted to see Madden grow in the MCU. They could have waited for another movie or two to kill him off.

I think I clicked the most with Ikaris, honestly. Just that weight of him being the only one to know what their true purpose is, and being afraid of such a big change, and if they were to disobey the Celestials, I'm sure he worried a lot about the repercussions of their actions. He was definitely misunderstood, (and I don't mean misunderstood like how Falcon kept saying that Karli girl in TFATWS was "misunderstood" her and her terrorist group killed plenty of innocent people, not the same thing here lol) I'm sure the weight of all these thoughts were mentally draining and stressful on him.

i was literally rooting for ikaris in the final fight, cuz earth (and all the other planets if they convince the other eternals to do the same) will eventually die out and with no new celestials, no new planets. no new planets, no universe.
