Did I Waste $5000 on Engine Parts? More Horsepower & MPGs? (Part 1)

Did I waste $5,000 upgrading my old pickup or should I have spent that money on a new pickup? Before the upgrades, the truck accelerated from 0-60 in 17.08 seconds. Towing 10,000 pounds, the truck accelerated from 0-60 in over 45 seconds. Also, the truck is unable to hold highway speed towing 10,000 pounds climbing a 3% grade.

I requested a collaboration with Power Driven Diesel in Cedar City, Utah. A big “thank you” to Will, Todd, Myer, Griffith, Reed, Levi, Pedro, and the rest of the team at Power Driven Diesel for their role in this review. In part 1 of 2, I travel out to Power Driven Diesel for the upgrades to the engine. I do not accept sponsorships and I paid for all of the parts, fluids, etc used to upgrade the engine. In part 2, I rebuild the transmission. I paid for all of the parts used to upgrade the transmission.

I do not receive any form of commission or financial benefit from the sale of Power Driven Diesel parts. Here are the links to the parts I purchased for the upgrades. I used 055 delivery valves and not the 025 listed in the engine upgrade kit. I highly recommend calling Power Driven Diesel’s customer support team to discuss upgrades. They are friendly and very helpful.

It warms my heart to see Todd doin something for himself. Hard working man deserves it.

How did he not break the exhaust bolts, that's a trick we need to know.

I really appreciate the focus on fuel efficiency and clean running diesel, amazing seeing 0 soot come out while on the dyno. I hate seeing all these clowns with their diesels that are poorly tuned, rolling coal and have shit fuel efficiency with less power. Awesome video and amazing gains!

Just forwarded this to my diesel mechanic son in the Navy. This was a great rebuild! I’m normally watching your other product comparison videos so this was really different, but your rapid-fire voiceover, and intensity really puts icing on the cake! Thanks so much! Go Mopar!

Just when I had thought Project Farm had peak content, he comes in with some sweet new content, and didn't spare on the editing and voice over, nor the cost of parts. I couldn't say how grateful I've been for your videos. Absolutely one of the greats!

The amount of information in this video is unreal. Definitely we need more of this

I am a huge car guy and have been following the channel for quite some years now. This is awesome to see. Love this kind of content. You keep doing you Todd.

I love videos like these because it breathes new life into older vehicles. Andy can do it way cheaper than purchasing a new vehicle.

It never ceases to amaze me, the amount of clear, concise information that this man can pack into a video. 👍

Definitely gonna love these performance oriented projects, pretty cool addition to your normal videos.

I believe you would have great success doing more tutorials like this. Your delivery and usual attention to detail would make them some of the best around .

A suggestion for a future video: I'd love to see tests on LED bulbs, the standard replacement kind for 120 volt sockets. I'd like to see which ones are really, truly dimmable, how much power they really use, and how much light they actually put out. Thanks Todd, I love your videos, keep up the awesome work!

You already know how amazing of an engineer and a handyman you are, but getting such a complicated process recorded, then properly edited and narrated — all without awkward pauses and mistakes — that is some incredible dedication and dare I say... perfectionism? :)

I like the deviation from the regular content. Getting other folks involved with a large project. You made that 12valve come alive! Can't wait for the transmission video now.

Thank you for your amazing content! With all your videos, the time and effort you spend to come up with the objective criteria then design, conduct and film the tests (with normal-ish equipment) is just incredible. Your tests done over a year 😱🤯 👏 You are exactly the type of content creator that makes me appreciate social media.

Such a great video! Super excited to see Part II. In particular, I appreciate how you prioritized making more power efficiently, rather than just trying to roll coal every time you get on the gas.
  • @Typh3621
When you think about it, 5k for a 50% power boost is actually quite a bargain. People often spend more than that simply to gain 20 or 30 hp. Love to see you doing engine stuff on the channel again, please dont ever be afraid of thinking outside the box with these videos, they are so spectacular. Id suggest targeting the farmabago next for engine//mod videos. It would be awesome next to the cummins videos.
  • @YorkyPudinz
I watch a hell of a lot of performance build stuff on YT, im only 8 mins in here and its already one of the most in depth without becoming boring, builds I've come across. For your first video of this type of genre, you've absolutely smashed it in my opinion, well done 🤘 Looking forwards to the future uploads as always 🫡

As someone with a massive tree in my yard, as long with bags upon bags of leaves, I think a video comparing leaf vacuum/mulchers would be amazingly helpful!!
  • @ethangurley317
Its awesome to see you showing how to keep something older up to current standards with the direction the automotive industry is taking with planned obsolescence. Thank you for the amazing video!
