Father & Son Lost In A Snowstorm 😨 | I Shouldn't Be Alive | S01 E10 | All Documentary

Published 2020-06-27
US Air Force pilot Mike Couillard takes his ten-year-old son Matthew skiing in Turkey. Losing the trail in a freak snowstorm they wander blindly into the wilderness. Tired, cold and hungry, they find a cave to shelter for the night. Days pass with no sign of rescue, despite a massive search operation.
Back home Mike's wife and other children wait, praying. Mike makes an agonizing decision to leave his son and seek help. Reaching some abandoned huts, he collapses. Two days later, he's discovered by passing woodcutters who he directs to the cave. They find Matthew, frostbitten but alive after his ten-day ordeal in the wilderness

Re-enactments of real-life tales of human survival against the savage elements, dangerous climates and physical hazards.

Shout out to the turkish people, they didn't have to search relentlessly but they still did when the Americans themselves gave up.

I can imagine how a father must be feeling leaving his son alone for days alone in a cave. No matter how trained you are when you face a real situation like this it becomes a realty test. Such a wonderful feeling to see them both survived.

My sister just came up with a parody of this show called "I Should Be Alive", where ghosts appear on the show and say things like "I was only babysitting the neighbors kids. I should be alive, but I'm not." My dad is really laughing at that concept.

Thank goodness for the Turkish people. They are all heroes and the reason why they survived. As a former skier, we always carried a book of matches, a bottle of water. You just never know
  • @nbrown6051
Those men who helped him are HEROS Good good people still exist. I thought they were all gone in this insane heartless greedy world
  • Inserts "these actors are better than most Hollywood celebrity actors" comment

I always find it incredible when one parent left behind gets a sense that their family member is still alive...a gut feeling. What an incredible experience to go through.
  • I’m so glad they made it out with minor repercussions! What surprises me is that someone with military training kept skiing and walking for hours during the blizzard instead of trying to stay close to the chairlift until the snow stopped…
  • @pentiuman
The save at the end - father and son back together again almost made me cry! Dang it.
  • @pro-touch7055
I think the father slept through a few of his survivalist classes.
  • this made me cry .2 strong men .well done little man for being brave ,have a lovely life with your family
  • This is true love for a father who gave the last piece of food, gloves to his son.

I love all the comments by people who would have done "this or that", but nobody can know what they would do in critical circumstances until they experience what others have faced. Get real folks--unless you have been in certain emergent situations, you cannot know how you would act or react. We're all human and we make many mistakes, only to reflect back to realize where we went wrong. The term "Woulda, coulda shoulda" rings very true at times throughout life as we fall into the unseen crevices of the moment.

You see a kid in the blizzard who can't find his dad and little brother and bus leaves without anyone helping? 🤔🙄😔
  • WHEN HIS WIFE SAID "SHE KNEW THEY WAS STILL WIHT US" SHE FELT LIKE SHE WOULD KNOW IF THEY WASN'T! THAT HIT ME LIKE A TON OF BRICKS...BECAUSE IY WAS TRUE!! I LOVED WHEN SHE SAID MY FAMILY IS "HERE"!!! SO HAPPY THEY MADE IT & ARE DOING WELL!!! 🥰🙏
