Today we're speedrunning Octodad, but with 4 people. Each person controls one of Octodad's limbs and it turns this game into complete mayhem

Thanks to @LaxChris, @PurpleHairGuy, and @VengeanceBry for doing this speedrun with me!

Watch the world record speedrun here: this video :)

My channel generally focuses on a more casual side of speedruns. With these videos I want to show off cool speedruns, explain how they work, and entertain. Hopefully you enjoy the content and maybe even take up speedrunning yourself, because it is truly a lot of fun!

Octodad: Dadliest Catch explanation (from Steam):

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.

In this sequel to the splash hit Octodad, our cephaloprotagonist has gotten himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust, and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium! Are you dad enough to control the titular octopus father as he strives to hide his nautical nature from his family while keeping his tangled tentacles intact?

In Octo-ber 2010, a group of university students released the original Octodad into the world. Despite everyone being convinced that the game was about a normal human dad, the game was a cult hit, gained critical acclaim, and was an Independent Games Festival Student Finalist in 2011. Octodad received enough attention that the team decided to run a Kickstarter, form the game studio Young Horses, and create a bigger, better, more polished game about Octodad. Two and a half years after beginning production, Octodad: Dadliest Catch is ready to flop awkwardly into your arms.

Key Features

Octodad’s wacky physics create hilarious moments that are different every time. Be surprised by the randomness of Octodad’s flailing or express your own sense of humor by making Octodad do silly things.

An all-new adventure that explores Octodad’s world, relationships and backstory.

Complete Octodad’s sartorial style by collecting and wearing a variety of hidden neckties.

Gather family members and/or friends to control Octodad's limbs in co-op mode with 2 to 4 players. Up to 4 times the limbsanity!

Gain access to the (Windows Only) level editor that the Young Horses used to create Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Create your own ridiculous levels for Octodad to squish and flop through and submit them to Steam Workshop.

Play mod levels created by the Steam community and the creators of Octodad on Steam Workshop.

Experience Dadliest Catch’s unique control scheme with various control inputs, including X360, DualShock4, Mouse + Keyboard, Mac multitouch trackpad, Windows 8 touchscreens. For gamepads, XInput is best supported, as DirectInput requires manual remapping in most circumstances.

Had to think about how OctoDad has to suffer 4 different consciousness arguing about how to be efficient at doing basics and claiming who is better while he is powerless to do anything about it. He has little control over the minds of his limbs I cried a little. But as long as they are going fast it's fine I guess.

    Eazy: "GUYS WE'RE SPEEDRUNNING" Guys: "hehe c r a b s"

Legs during arm gameplay: patiently waiting for a walking section and occasionally moving for the arms Arms during leg gameplay: “we can and will sacrifice speed to participate”
  • @AntiR2525
Friends: Grabbing the biggest things possible Easy Speezy: Internal screaming
  • @TheGamedawg
In today's speedrun the players are the runners, the backseaters, as well as the extremely excited audience.
  • @TheLetterJ0
I was honestly expecting the Arms to accidentally discover a new skip by flailing objects around so much that you clip through a wall or something.
  • @Daybroken
having 4 people in one body for an entire life time would either suck or be the funniest thing ever
  • @Couchiestpotato
“Our wife is fred flintstone she needs the meat” We need more multiplayer speedruns lmao
  • @30-50FeralHogs
Imagine being a little girl politely asking for choccy milk and your octopus dad busts down the door flinging the milk everywhere and knocks down chairs and tables to get you your choccy milk Edit: yes I'm aware "choccy milk" isn't funny anymore (and probably never was for some people) I noticed
  • @AngryFrog224
Fun fact: an octopus actually has 9 brains. One for each leg, so this speedrun is kind of real Edit: changed 'each for each leg' to 'one for each leg'
  • @temxasred3086
4:28 Fun fact: an octopus technically has a brain in each of it's limbs to multitask like a boss
  • @darrelsam419
The legs carried most of the run while the arms messed around, but the arms made this speedrun hilarious. So I say both teams contributed equally to the run. I'm really impressed that you all managed to beat the record time despite messing around. Now that's teamwork. :D
  • @OwOstrich
team legs all the way, if the arms had simply stopped trying to grab literally everything in sight you would have gotten a better time
  • @natsbat2338
The fact that you guys could've been even faster if the arms didn't grab all those thkngs that weren't meeded is amazing to me
  • @thaias9654
Arms grabbing and dragging random crap around loosing time reminds me of multiplayer stealth sections in games and having to run to the object because someone else triggered the alarms.
  • @cameronfrei5505
I would like to see more CO OP gaming with these guys its funny as hell and i love the speed run
  • Team arms are the goofy kids who party all day before the exam but still manage to secure the highest score and team legs is the studious kid 10/10 to both legs and arms
