The Myth of Enlightenment

Published 2024-06-20
Today, you’ll hear Dr. Jacobs' conversation with Dr. Chris Firestone, where they deconstruct some all-too-common misconceptions about the Enlightenment. Was the Enlightenment spawned by atheist empiricists on a mission to disprove religion? Were those who preceded this awakening little more than dogmatic simpletons? Find out today on The Nathan Jacobs Podcast.

Another fantastic episode, Dr. Jacobs! It's quickly becoming one of my favorite podcasts!

Thanks for asking this question and hosting this session, Nathan. I've been wrestling with this "reality" vs "non-reality" social struggle debacle since 2021 and it's great to hear a philosophical debate on it. I don't get to have conversations like these in my immediately available social groups.

I have no idea if Dr Jacobs sees these comments but I have a request for a podcast episode.

An overview of Logos Theology. Logos, Logoi, Skopos, The Energies, and how said system compares and contrasts with Thomistic Essentialism/Substance Metaphysics. I have never seen a comparison done and I can't find an in depth overview of Logos Metaphysics, while many exist for Thomism.

    Loving this channel!

Excellent, excellent episode. This has to be first in a ten-part series, right?

Reason is a function, it is important for negotiating a path between the head and the heart; thought and feeling. It is not the deity it has been elevated to in The Age of Reason, and it can, if untethered from the heart and feelings be Frankenstein-ish.
