A short film from the Prelinger Archives, this one has a visit to Warwick, NY on the L&HR, followed by scenes of multiple RS-1's on freights on the NYS&W including a cab ride and interchange with the L&NE. Then some scenes of the EMD GP20 demonstrators attempting to generate a sale to the Susquehanna, followed by the result of that demo, the delivery of 3 new GP18's to the NYS&W from the Erie at Campbell Hall, NY (I'm assuming this location, correct me in the comments if I'm wrong). Finally, a short commuter train somewhere in New Jersey and a GP18 powered local in the late 60's. Sounds added from my video library and Arkay Records. Enjoy!

The first short L&HR clip (not sure of the location) is before 1960; the rest of the L&HR footage is from the the road's centennial in 1960- the yard shot with #3 and #10 is at Maybrook, the rest are in Warwick.
  • I have fond memories of the old “Suzy-Q” in northern NJ back in the 60’s and early 70’s! Thanks for posting!
  • Another gem, superb job by the sound effects department, give them a raise.
  • What’s that funny looking red car with the windows at the end of the train? 😁

Great footage as always, especially with the NYSW 2 coach passenger train.

Nice. So that's what a GP-20 looks like when new. Them RSs looked like they seen a mile or two.

You always find amazing film. With out you many of these scenes would be completely lost to time

A first for me seeing L&HR. Great videos. Excellent work. Thank you.
  • Ah, those are GP-20 demo's. Neat! I've not seen those before, nor any Suzy Q footage & so many RS-1's coupled together either. That really is something to me. Very neat footage!

Love those Alco RS-1s. They seemed like real workhorses!
  • Believe the delivery of those Geeps was actually Passaic Junction (BT)
