What a story. Coming up next we have principles John Hall and Lance Hoppen from the 70s band Orleans. These guys lit up radio for a couple of years with 3 big hits including 2 that are still played all the time. But then the group up and vanished… John Hall retired from being a rockstar and went into politics. Today’s classic 70s hit “Still the One” was actually written by a band member’s wife while she was doing the laundry. One story claims she wrote it on an envelope and one says it was a napkin but the band recorded it in about 15 minutes. It became a top 5 smash and conquered pop culture and was released on a record that had one of the strangest album covers of the time. The interview is next on Professor of Rock.

Poll: What is your pick for the CATCHIEST, MOST SINGABLE Chorus from a 70s or 80s song?

I was at a wedding once where the bandleader asked everyone to stand up. We did. Then he told all the single people to sit down. Then he said, if you've been married less then 5 years, you sit down. Then if you've been married less than 10 years, you sit down. This went on until the last couple was standing and they'd been married 43 years. Everyone applauded. Then the band leader said, "This next song is for you. Everyone else, you make sure you say 'Hello" to this couple before you leave because they know what they're doing!" Then the band played "Still the One." It was a happy time!

Been married 58 years this year! He is still the one! As you go through life you learn what true love means! For me I was hospitalized for a month with a life threatening surgery….my husband would sit by my side from morning until evening…..I knew that love is more than words….it is action. Never felt more loved. Years later he suffered a stroke, and as he recovered I had a chance to show him my love. We married young…I was 18, and he was 19. Yes I loved him, but found out just what that word really means! Thanks for allowing me to share my love story! Still going strong!
  • The night my husband and I met, we went to the jukebox to make a selection and he asked me, "do you like Orleans?" I sure did! So the first song we heard together was "Still the One". He told me that night he would marry me and we tied the knot exactly a year and a day later. Just celebrated 46 years together and LOVE that it's 'our' song! ❤

Sadly, most people that don't "get" this song, will probably never experience this kind of relationship. Married at 18 to my high school sweetheart. 42 years later still going strong and she is still the one!

I’m a 75year old great grandma and I still love this song. Always makes me think of my hubby. 😊
  • I sometimes forget that the 70s was 5 decades ago until the Professor has an interview with a musician from that time and era. Then I snap out of it. 🤯
  • Took this 45 from my sister and played it over and over on my little record player...i was 5. When i met my husband i told him the story of me loving this song when i was little and he shared the same story...only it was on a jukebox..it's our song now..playing it for our silver anniversary this year. 😊

This song along with Player's baby come back and Aces' how long, are classic 70's gold.

I dedicate this song to my wife - 20 years of marriage She’s still the one and we’re still having fun together
  • This is downright eerie--I heard "Still the One" on the radio today, and I thought, "The Professor needs to do a video on this one." And here it is!

My wife and I will celebrate our 50th this June. We have three sons who are musically gifted and I have asked them to do this song for the party.
  • Mom and Dad made it past their 46th anniversary before he passed due to complications from a stroke. Long-term committed true love is possible if two good people are together. Still the one!🎶
  • Back in the day, I had a Navy Vet, bar patron, Charles (Charlie, Chuck), tell me that "You're Still The One" was his wedding song. R.I.P. Charles. This guy was the best! He and his wife picked a great song!
  • @mattyswan1
Dance With Me - that song rockets me back to the 70's like no other.
  • @flavellinator
Such sweet harmonies by Orleans... "Dance With Me" puts me in a good mood every single time! Disco Duck kept "Still the One" from #1? Puh-lease!
  • @ljybrooks118
I can’t hear ‘Dance with Me’/& ‘Still the One’ without smiling…😁 Such happy love songs!❤️
  • @trinaq
Aww, that's such the sweetest backstory ever told. Who knew that laundry could inspire a classic rock song?
  • @ScottyMcYachty
I'm the lead singer for the Yacht Rock group Yachty By Nature, and the crowd loves this tune!
  • I remember when ABC used Still The One in a commercial back when Happy Days was the #1 show.
