Speckled trout are way tougher than people think. There was a great mulkti-year study that showed as long as there was no gill damage, the fish survived, if they had gill damage they died. They took them out of the water and wiped off all the slime with a towel and kept them in a live well for hours and they still survived. Everyone treats them like delicate flowers but they are tough.
  • Mark, Thank you for always reminding our Anglers to pick up after themselves and to keep our coast clean. It's so important to preserve nature for our future generations.

I agree with you 100 percent, whoever came up with this slot for specks has never fished for specs. This slot limit is a prime example of what happens when feel good bureaucracy takes the place of common sense fishery management. Hate to see it here in Texas.

Too many people leave their trash behind after fishing. I appreciate you reminding everyone to pick up after themselves. I always try to pick up a few more pieces before I leave. Enjoyed the video. Tight lines!

People don’t know what the motive was behind the slot change. Fish from 20-30 inches are still considered breeders. Once they are over 30 they don’t breed

Great video, the rig and thin wire hook is a great tip! Hope to see you guys out there one day.

Nice specks guys always appreciate the footage- tight lines- PuraSal Angler 🙌🏻

Thanks for the jetty cork rig info! Although I mostly fish from my kayak, I do fish some jetties from the yak and that might be a good option.

Great to see you and Christian out there that day. Being just less than 10 feet away from you, i'm gonna assume that it was my Slip cork rigging that had me skunked that day lol. I will go back to that rig yall used that day the next time. Great video 😁

As it was explained by a Texas A&M Galveston Marine Biology professor, even with losses it's just something that has to be done. Think about it, say 50% mortality rate of returned fish. Now if 50% were retained and the 50% returned died...the mortality rate just jumped to 75% for +20" fish. Cheers 🤠
  • Nice video, Mark, those were all very nice keepers! Things are picking up! Take care and be safe!
  • Theyll survive. If we want to keep fishing for trout and pass it on to the next generation, the new limits were a smart move.
  • @JettyMan
I would say that the regulations for trout are more directed at guides who take clients out. They catch a lot of fish and can put a huge dent in the big trout population.
  • @earltheiss1927
I totally agree. As usual though. The rules are made by non-actual participant people in what they are making rules for. Plus the worst part of that is people not following rules that makes the rule makers make bad decisions trying to counter that. These new rules will probably kill a goodly portion of the fish they are trying to save.
