PHEW THIS GAME MAN. Another Atlus game under my wing and I all I can say is that this is FAR from what I expected this game to be and I still loved the experience!

  • Catherine was the first video game I ever played that felt mature to me. NOT in the way the M rating is usually used, aka, "BLOOD AND TITS AND NAUGHTY WORDS AND SEX WOOO!" but I mean in a way that is ACTUALLY mature. Aka, the games main theme of being a just hitting early middle aged person who's life has become a rut, but it's comfortable in the rut so you fear making big changes even if they probably will be positive in the end and you recognize that if you just let the status quo keep going you'll never really truly be happy is such "really only relatable if you actually are an adult" theme that I adored it. Helped that the VA cast knocked it out of the fucking park. There were parts of the game where I was like "I literally have been in a bar, having this exact conversation, with these exact people, and it sounded just like this."
  • Crystal : "I don't want to drink!" Narrator : "You move faster." Crystal : "Who even needs a liver?"
  • @aKihiKoaDDicT
"so the owner of the bar is the villain of the game" SHE'S DONE IT AGAIN
  • “This is a dating simulator where you are in a dream” I MEAN??? I GUESS??? The Crystaahhl Ball strikes again
  • 6:23 “If you like a murderer in a video game you’re a murderer irl” I don’t think she’s forgotten the Akechi hate comments stream yet. Lmao
  • Atlus Employee: Our amazing story focused videogame series needs an update in graphics, how should we handle this? Other Atlus Employee: How about we make another amazing story focused video game to serve as a test run?
  • What she expected: Dating Simulator What She got: EDGE. And dating sim

I love how this game was not only but also a unique game that was developed as a test subject for the engine they would use for Persona 5, along with a ALL STAR VA cast, & with a protagonist who is the walking definition of a BRUH Moment for a majority of the game
  • @TheLadyFool
...yeah, the ending is absolutely hysterical once you decide you don't care about being a "good" person anymore and go straight after Catherine. It's not what I consider the "best" ending in terms of theme/storytelling/etc, but it's certainly the most fun!

24:13 The "peak unattractiveness" bit reminded me of a fandom in-joke when the game first came out about Vincent dumping all his character creation points into being stupidly great in bed, explaining why both love interests had such a hard time quitting him.
  • @mastermo316
Did you know that Vincent appeared in Persona 3 Portable? You can meet him in the Escapade. P3P was realesed over a year before Cathrine.
  • @KaiboStudios
"The owner of the bar is the enemy of the game" HOW!?!?!? DID SHE DO THIS!?!?!?!? Bruh Crystaahhl has the all seeing eyes.
  • @KillerViper8
"If he doesn't fix himself, how he is, he's gonna crash" Vincent in Rin's True Ending: Are you sure about that?! Also did she ever see that Akechi's VA is a patron in the game?

Dunno if Crystal ever found out about this, but I'mma share it anyways. So, it's possible to purchase and download other VOs for the imaginative Catherine, which in the Japanese version are all voiced by the VOs of the major female characters from P3, P4, and P5. I don't know if this is the case for the English version of the game. I think that this is cool in two ways. Firstly, it furthers the idea that Catherine really was all just Vincent's (the player's) imagination, and you get to pick the choose the voice that best fits Vincent's (the player's) fantasy. Secondly, Atlus KNOWS a good chunk of the player base will be fans of the Persona series, so might as well throw in all the callbacks to the characters in P3 - P5 and seduce you to pay for the DLC. I bought them btw. Constantly switching between Yukiko from P4 and Makoto from P5's voices. I have sinned so much lol.

For some, this a game about love and the problems it brings. For Crystaahl, it’s about the money.
  • "the bartender is the main villain of the game" and i thought Nico had the ultimate bullshit
  • 2:30 Disembodied voice: Are you having some problems? CrystAAHHL: Daaad! Wait... Why am I calling this guy dad..? Because in a previous life, as in a previous game... he was your dad.
  • @xerael4659
It might be weird, but I swear Catherine's (yes, with a "C") endings are actually the best from Vincent's perspective, especially the one where she goes back in time. Literally everyone in it is happy and the other is... Well, it's just epic, isn't it?
  • It's interesting that this game has a multitude of different endings, depending on how well you do with the puzzles, what choices you've made during the confessions, and what answers you pick at the climax when you finally confront Catherine, Katherine, and/or Rin (Qatherine). In my case, Vincent in my playthrough had an epiphany that he needed to take control of his life and be more assertive with his decisions, so he declined all the ladies and asked Boss for a $50,000 loan for a wrestling match bet, with Vincent winning the big bucks to pay off Boss and sporting a bank account "having a lot of zero's". He travels/lives in outer space in pure wanderlust, in order to do some soul searching (the Freedom-True Ending). Crystal was on-point that Vincent is far from a well-adjusted fella, going through the motions of his relationship by lying to himself and denying his true feelings about what he wanted in life. He also didn't enjoy his dead-end job or the company of his friends beyond simple drinking buddies, and then there's the fact that none of the Catherine's (Catherine the Succubus, Katherine the Human, and Qatherine the Alien) were good matches for him anyway. In my mind, it made the most sense for him to stop wasting Katherine's time so he can follow his life's ambitions without making those would be miserable. In the final cut scene, he seemed very adjusted and content ("Why live a life without doing what you want? That's just a recipe for a life of misery..."), which is more than can be said for most of the game's other endings.

0:41, 1:24, 3:45 Holy crap, I've seen CrystAAHHL guess games multiple times, and its still so pants-crappingly terrifying that she can basically guess 80% of the game at a first glance
