The animated TV series ThunderCats was one of the most popular cartoons in the world during the 1980s. The popular cartoon ran for four seasons and even spun off a movie titled ThunderCats Ho!

The cartoon introduced kids to iconic characters like Lion-O, the nunchaku wielding Panthro, Cheetara, and Tygra. The villains on the animated series were equally as memorable, particularly the malevolent evil sorcerer Mum-Ra. Even the opening theme of ThunderCats was catchy and cool.

But it’s been over 30 years since ThunderCats first aired. If you ever revisit the popular cartoon, these are the things you will notice now that you're all grown up.

What other things have you noticed in animated shows from the past?
  • @KnightOfGaea
That moment you realize that the Sword of Omen projects a red dot that the Thundercats are compelled to chase.
  • What a misleading title. Should have been “Thundercats: Little known Facts” or something to that effect.

That feeling when a children's animated cartoon from the 80's has deeper writing than most Hollywood movies.
  • Was born in the early 2000s and my mom watched these when she was younger and she bought the DVDs of Thundercats to make sure I didn’t miss out on anything. Glad she did that.

When I was young, I had a SERIOUS crush on Cheetara.
  • So all this time Mumm-ra was just an old man, angry at the children on his lawn? 🤯🤯
  • Jaga: Throws sword of Plunder into volcano Sword of Plunder: "B!$%h, this ain't Lord of the Rings! F&*@ yo planet!"

considering the stage of animation and character design back then, this seems like a master piece? aged well

so ... really.. what are the things that only adults notice
  • @BroodallyHonest
You know, they should have had a middle aged female character named Cougra. That would have been awesome.

I'm almost certain that early on Mumm-ra tells Lion-o that he remembers when "this was the first Earth." So right there he's saying that's he ancient and that this entire cartoon is about ten seconds from a stranded astronaut falling to his knees on the beach and crying "YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP!"

Things only adults noticed in thundercats: Mumm ra was the legitimate ruler of third earth
  • @timg375
Don't forget when he yells "HO" his sword gets longer lol
  • Are we forgetting this show had the greatest soundtrack in cartoon history?
  • @LurnWell
As an adult, I don't find Snarf annoying in hindsight. He was there to provide light heartedness. As an adult, I understand the importance of it.

I flipping loved Thundercats. It stands out as the best and I super loved Transformers and He-man too. How they looked, the voices and all the characters make this show shine the brightest IMO

The most interesting thing about the show to me is that it had a villain that had already won before the show started. The whole reason why Earth is in the state it's in is because of Mumm-Ra. He is the ruler of the planet. Not a ruler in the typical way one means, but ruler in the sense that the planet went according to Mumm-Ra's will, weather the inhabitants were aware of it or not. Compare that to the likes of Megatron, Cobra Commander, and so on.
  • @zhiguli8
Mummra's motivation could possibly be that he just misses his former job as Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie.

I honestly never saw Snarf as annoying. I actually always loved Snarf. In fact, my all time favorite episode is when Mum-Ra captures all the Thundercats and Snarf goes on a mission to not only find out what happened but to rescue the Thundercats from Mum-Ra.
