  • Magnificent views of the Gresley 2-to-1 lever in action: best I've ever seen!
  • Used to see her on a Sunday by my home when I lived in Buckinghamshire in the 1980's. Still beautiful thanks to the efforts of all those people. Thanks for saving her and the terrific filming!!!
  • That's great and thanks for posting it up. Some excellent editing between the outside and inside views at appropriate times I think.

Some machine! Was lucky enough to get a footplate ride from Pickering to Grosmont on SNG. What struck me was how noisy it was in the cab.

80" drivers, 21 feet per revolution. Looks like she's just loafing along. Thanks for showing the combining gear working! Looks to be pretty easy on the fireman. Wiki talks about the steam piping being streamlined internally, a combustion chamber added, and a Kylchap exhaust. Similar to the steam flow experiments that William Woodard at the US Lima Locomotive Works did to produce the revolutionary "Super Power" locos. I can see why Nigel was knighted.
  • Fabulous video. Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the wheel turned by the driver?

Thanks for sharing. Always fascinating to see how easily these beasties can get moving. Had me thinking how relatively difficult it must have been to maintain a clear control of the boiler levels / injectors at night-time with the strong firebox glow distracting. Al.

  • very nice, can i ask, when an a4 whistles, a little bit of steam comes out just on top of the name plate. whats that bit for?
