Thomas & Hot Wheels Stock Study Counting Percy Post Christmas Retail Fail Saga

After Christmas I go to my favourite retailer to count AEG Thomas & Friends Percy stock. My pre Christmas prediction didn't work out. The good news is all the Hot Wheels stock that was missing before Christmas arrived after Christmas. I look back just two years to remember much happier times, a time just prior to Thomas All Engines Go stock arrived. At my local large shopping Mall I now only have two retailers who carry Thomas & Friends stock and in reality these two major anchor stores are actually the same. It really feels like a race to the bottom and this style of retailing has a negative effect on the whole shopping Mall. When the only choice is Percy it says much about all the things that are going wrong. Anyway I always said Bluey was going to be huge, I called that many years ago and I feel no one ever believed me.

ANKO is Kmart Australia's house brand: an evolution of the “&Co” branding it had previously used for individual departments such as “Kids&Co”, “Home&Co” and “Clothing&Co”. Introduced in 2019 to celebrate Kmart's 50th anniversary, Anko also means “A New Kind Of”, representing the company's changed philosophy since 2008. A 2024 article by The Australian reported that 85 per cent of products in Kmart stores are Anko brand. Anko has the largest market share in the home and toys, menswear, womenswear and children’s wear categories in Australia.

Target began stocking Anko products in 2024. Anko is also an international brand: Kmart has made arrangements to sell its products in other department stores in countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and Canada

  • I have no idea why you guys don’t have Big W’s in your area. I’m a hour half drive to Sydney and we have 2 BigWs as long as I can honestly remember, meanwhile we’ve seen 1 Kmart and target fall here. And in my opinion I find BigW better then Kmart as it contains gaming items for a start and it has actual brands other than big durable Anko. And overall it’s for me a better experience. The Lego section is about 2-3 aisles, Thomas section is maybe 1 quarter or a 5th of the aisle, hot wheels is cranking, sports section is good as well as the books. Personally they are doing everything target/Kmarts Wesfarmers do but better, and hey anything to not support the Bunnings company😅 Have a good week Leo, and am excited for the next video

To make the Thumbnail for this video I used Photoshop's AI 'Generative Layer' tools to change my hand into an Robot Hand, changed Percy's mail wagon into a Christmas Gift wagon, and Percy's box face into a Troll Face. Seeing how it changed Percy's wagon so well is spooky. My request for the rolling stock was this, 'christmas wagon red and gold presents' within seconds it gave me 3 various options. It's a powerful and very dangerous Photoshop tool and incredibly easy to use. I have to pay top dollar to use Adobe's stuff, I'm not doing a free Ad for them showing off what it can do.

Been rewatching a lot of the old collections and it was nice to see something new, but man what a shame how we’ve lost the ol classic merch

Another depressing update but reflects my experience - I'm lucky that in the Sutherland shire we have 2x Big Ws and 2x Kmarts... But no Targets (anymore), but given the direction target is going I'm not sure it's a big loss for Thomas collectors. I just started following the Japanese Thomas and Friends Instagram and wow, the range of products there is a whole new world!
  • I used to be able to find Thomas Die-Cast toys in toy sections of grocery stores or checkouts here in the US. Now I'd be lucky to find anything Thomas related in big stores like Target. How the mighty have fallen, as one could say...
  • Gday Leo always look forward to these every year did you end up checking the book isles in Kmart? Also I’ve been trying to get in touch with you about a question I want to ask ya I think it would be better if I asked you through email :> sorry if I’m bugging you lol

Awesome video as always Leo! By the way, There's something that I'd like to chat to you about. So what is the best way to do that?
