Before Alcoholics Anonymous and other Twelve Step Programs, there was virtually no solution for alcoholism and drug addiction - no matter how hard the medical community tried. With an increase in reliance upon methods like "Relapse Prevention" from the medical community, and an ever-increasing relapse and overdose rate around the world - what if the new solution to the addiction crisis was once again found in the community of those who have suffered in addiction and alcoholism?

Adam Gunton is the Founder of Recovered On Purpose, a nonprofit dedicated to helping those in recovery share their stories powerfully and help addicts recover. Adam Gunton is the bestselling author of “From Chains To Saved,” founder of Recovered On Purpose, and host of The Recovered On Purpose Show. After overcoming homelessness and serious drug addiction in 2017, Adam set out to help as many people overcome similar circumstances as possible. His mission is to equip and empower addicts in recovery. He teaches them to powerfully share their stories with the world and encourage other addicts to find hope through recovery. Recovered on Purpose also doubles as a relapse prevention program by adding incredible purpose, mission and passion to their lives in recovery. It is growing rapidly and the impact this movement is making is beyond anything one person could do alone. His most exciting accomplishments to this point are all the stories his students share and tell him of the addicts who have found recovery through his program. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Im a recovered Alcoholic/addict. I am a counselor for a recovery center in southern Oregon. I shred this video with my online group. I appreciate you and Ted talks for making this video possible
  • I just got home from a 90 day residential program today. I am an alcoholic and I have 95 days sober. In rehab I started writing poetry for my friends graduating. Then other housemates started asking for poems too. I will be making a recovery poetry book. Recovery has become a passion for me. I’m so happy I came upon your talk. Thank you!
  • Thank you to TEDxBillings and TED for giving us the opportunity to share our stories with your audience. We are a nonprofit community service who believes the medical community and everyone in recovery are a team for the war against pain, suffering and death caused by addiction. We connect people to resources for free and for purpose. If you need help finding recovery, reach out to whoever you believe in your heart you should. That is the pathway to recovery meant for you. Blessings.

I just got out of rehab for the first time in my life. I love these videos. I am forever grateful to recovery institutions. It changed my life. I have a daughter that is struggling with the same addiction that I had. I want her to go to rehab but I know it won't work until she is ready. It took me till I was 45 to even attempt it. All I can do is be there when she is ready. I want her to watch this video.

Wow.. thank you for sharing your story. I firmly believe the sobriety journey is easier when we support each other. I also went through a terrible relationship with substances and, when I quit, my life started! It was so great that I decided to start a YouTube channel to help people change their relationship with alcohol :') Thanks for the inspo! God bless!
  • This will help so many people who are struggling or who know someone who is struggling ❤ amazing job!
