  • To those saying the thumbnail is racist, let me address what is happening here. If you look up the photos of Human Zoo's you will understand what the thumbnail is showing (actual photos). The thumbnail only portrays the horrible reality of what actually happened.
  • @DaneGilly
Why is everyone talking about the thumbnail as if they did that to be risque or offensive? That is literally what happened

This is why it is important that the REAL history is taught in schools. People crying racism because of a thumbnail illustrating what really happened shows what happens when you don’t properly teach world history. For example; Regions in the U.S. think it’s “offensive” to talk about how black Americans were treated during and after the civil war, I know of many non-black people who think racism ended when the slaves were freed. That’s embarrassing, but that ignorance gives them an excuse to not do anything about ongoing racial disparities.

Take note that the thumbnail accurately portrays what happened in 1958, Belgium.
  • I remember a Twilight Zone Episode where an Astronaut is on another planet in a house, but there is a picture window where the residents are looking in the window at him.😮

The fact that humanity had such a dark chapter in history is disturbing, but the fact that we are able to overcome such divisions within ourselves is enlightening! From negative 1 million on the scale to plus one hundred is pretty good! It makes me wonder how much further we can unite as a species in the next 100 years 😊😊

For all of you who think "this is something that happened in the past," it's still going on to this day. Many Native Americans are treated in much the same way, even now. I recall one Mescalero Apache friend talking about how she was sitting outside of her house making pottery, on a day that her reservation was open to the public. Some German tourists came by and stood there gawking at her. When she finally looked up and said, "Good morning," they appeared horrified and scurried away, not expecting their "tourist attraction" to actually TALK. Another recalls being at dances 20 years ago or so, and the Texas tourists would throw quarters at the dancers, sort of like tossing peanuts to squirrels. This is real, folks. And it still goes on. We still have a long way to go before there is true equality on this Earth, for all races and both sexes and the LGBTQ community. Don't give up hope, please....we've come a long way, but don't allow yourself to become complacent. There's still a long road ahead. Blessings to all. <3

Concerning freak shows at circuses, all too often these persons had no other employment opportunities. Often it was a case of it's better than nothing.
  • I once went to a traveling fair who had a human snake-man in a snake pit. It was an out of work biker with a spit- tongue.

Crazy how people are crying about the thumbnail when it’s something that was very real and happened. Pick up a book and do your research 💀
  • As a zookeeper, Carl Hagenbeck is actually well known for being one of the founding members of modern zoos, with active interpretation of an animal's habitat and revolutionizing new barrier principles. It's a shame to hear where he started, and what he did. I certainly won't be mentioning his name any longer.
  • The first person to ban human zoos was a certain Austrian painter turned German chancellor. Just saying.

“I still think he belongs with the monkeys” is crazy 😭🙏

One thing not brought up in this video is that many of the tribes where the people were from were actually quite modern. The participants were paid to act out a "primitive" lifestyle. Since the invasion of Europeans on their homeland, they've been forced to participate in a capitalist economy. So, they have little choice but to do what they can do get by, even if it means degrading themselves for the sick entertainment of the western masses. I really appreciate the Infographic Show for making this video. It's crucial to remember that there are still people who think in very much the same way.
  • This is what happened. You should be surprised. It should never have happened in the first place.
  • People need to relax and act with maturity stop being overly sensitive and easily triggered about things otherwise we all are going to lose our freedom of speech. That's going to be the sad reality and its already starting to happen.

"People who were visibly Differently abled". Disabled. You can say it, it's a word. It's literally the word you are trying to dance around. My gosh.

Salute to Ota Benga…heard about his story a few years ago and was devastated someone could endure such humiliation and torture. Couldn’t sleep well for a few days after learning about him. Glad he’s covered in this!

10:09 Early or mid-to-late 1693? 14:18 Early-to-mid or late 1876? 16:36 Ditto the latter for 1886. 16:54 It began in August of that year, the very last month of the mid-1890s. (Personally, I'd have waited another eight days, at least.) 17:21 Ran from May to October of that year, so definitely mid-1890s. 18:03, 18:48 Early-to-mid or late 1906?
