Every second week, we will be releasing a tech tip video that will give users information on various topics relating to our storage products.

Today, Brett wanted to take a closer look at one of our newest products at 45Drives: The Proxinator. What is it? What is it useful for? Why did we develop it? Check out this week's tech tip to learn more.

For a better understanding of Proxmox vs ESXi, Mitch recently talked about feature comparisons to show why Proxmox is a fantastic alternative to ESXi - especially when comparing vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, Vmotion and VMware HA with Proxmox's direct alternatives. Check out that video here:    • 45Drives Tech Tip -  Comparing ESXi F...

A nice follow up video would be showcasing a small cluster of these with Promox and Ceph using NVMe storage, then show storage setup, configuration, and performance on a Linux and Windows VM.
  • @yavivid
That's awesome, Brett. I would love to see a cluster setup of Proxinator showcasing PetaSan in action leveraging enterprise-class features of Proxmox SDDC.
  • I've said it once, but it would be nice to buy these cases in barebone configurations. Like the case and the psu only. No fans, no mobo cpu ram sas; only the case and backplane and psu.
  • @gcs8
Think I would want to see a dual node version.
  • @yourpcmd
Need to make a short depth case.
  • You should send some of these to our favourite youtubers, so they can make cool stuff with it and we all an salivate over it :D
  • Very nice. Does Snapshield run on a ZFS/Ceph cluster run in Proxmox?
  • what would be better is a box that holds 4 full size gpu but overall it looks like a good first effort - it will sell and you can turn up the volume with subsequent iterations
  • @hpsfresh
I think you should add 3.5 drives too. Alongside u.2 drives. Also 64 cores can be not enough for ceph + vms.
  • @builtofire1
so i am a little confused, why would you launch a ddr4 based product in 2024 ? maybe for a storage server it would be ok, but here you enter in compute node hyper converged clustering virtual env management. just curious. thanks.
  • Nice but Just don’t think that companies would pick this idea up and maybe a little to flashy. And most homelabers besides the ones that reviews them and get them free would be snow to afford them. Now I kinda like what 45 drives did with the hl but still that is expensive
  • this is how can tell all of the engineering for this product was thrown out the window... everything that will be frequented, is at the back lol. nice concept tho.
  • Great idea, but I think you guys wasted a lot of internal space. IF one want's to use this with GPU's, they would like to have a bit more than one gpu - if you shift around the internal I think you could make a space for 4 not 1 GPU. You could also make the taller version where people can dump as many GPU's as they want if those are vertical not horizontal, just give them mounting places and high grade pcie cables.

The amount of "should have done differently" on this is astounding. There is NO market for this product. The folks/business who have the money would never buy it. The folks who would buy it dont have tge money. Needs to be redesigned. See the myriad comments here.
