Welcome to the October 2021 Ask Me Anything episode of Mindscape! These monthly excursions are funded by Patreon supporters (who are also the ones asking the questions). I take the large number of questions asked by Patreons, whittle them down to a more manageable size — based primarily on whether I have anything interesting to say about them, not whether the questions themselves are good — and sometimes group them together if they are about a similar topic. Enjoy!

I love that people ask non physics questions like about love or marriage, and that Sean not only answers them but takes them seriously and always has great thoughtful answers.

Thank you Professor ! Have a nice day everybody :)

Writing can help you draw attention to your favourite observations. You don't have to do it a lot. Just enough to jog your memory later. It's best when you've just learned that a previous understanding (that you've not written or read before) was inadequate

Sean’s cadence always calms the day, not often an easy result.😑

I watched Sean give a cosmology lecture, (on YouTube) at The Perimeter Institute and during the Q&A afterwards a few, but 1 physicist in particular, was extremely rude to him. He stated that they were “above him.” I get that Sean dabbled in a lot of different fields but for anyone to claim that they were superior to him was shocking, to say the least. You could tell it rattled him, but his response was very diplomatic and reserved. He his such an amazing educator for us lay-people and armchair pseudo-intellectuals that he deserves respect. It’s not easy taking the most complicated aspects of reality and explaining them in ways anyone can understand. I’m sure it’s a lot of work that he doesn’t even have to do, but he does and that is very noble.

Arrival is in a class by itself. I can't help but think Dr. Carroll would love it.

Many worlds flies in all second order spaces where permutation sets can be defined.
  • As somebody as respected and profound as you are in the field of science..... why only 146k subscribers? you deserve a million+

55:20: Being a nerd about words: ‘Get Out’ is actually a “terror” film, which means it’s just about humans being bad people. A “horror” film involves ghosts and goblins, etc. Edit: ignore all the Reddit and Google posts: among filmmakers, Terror = humans; horror = monsters.

I value the “Moving Naturalism Forward” series. Thank you for organizing them!!

Thanks for doing mindscape on YouTube - but I will try to watch (listen) on a podcast for future episodes.

On listening on YouTube vs another app: simply put, YouTube is where most of my other podcasts or regular subscriptions live. The algorithm seems to know I listen to this every week and sticks it to the top of recommended. If this only lived on the website, I may not think to seek it out.
