Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says that Russian President Vladimir Putin is playing games with G7 countries over energy exports to Europe.

“We called his bluff. It is now clear that Putin is weaponizing energy flows to Europe. The world sees through his game and that’s why we decided to make sure we took a strong stance and a difficult decision by sending back the turbine directly to Germany,” Joly said during a news conference alongside her German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, in Montreal on Wednesday.

Canada issued a special sanctions permit that allowed the import, repair and re-export of up to six Russian turbines in a bid to help Germany as it struggles with energy supply.

Russia has claimed that the turbine Canada returned to Germany wasn’t properly repaired and lacks the proper paperwork.

Germany did not even deliver the turbine to Russia yet. It is still in a Siemens facility in Essen, Germany.

Let's be clear...Europeans are on this situation because of their self-impose sanctions. Now Europe is crying because lack of gas. What do you expect to be treated with sunflowers. Stop blaming Rusia and be responsible of your actions.
  • The reporter is not asking a question, he is giving his personal opinion , with a grief attitude and very bias, a journalist should always be and maintain a neutral stance no matter the issue.

Imagine supplying weapons to the enemy of your Energy supplier and then crying about the shortage after !!! 🤡

honestly, these so called diplomats have no idea what they are talking
  • I don't think Canadians know what a bluff is or what it means to call one lmao.
  • I don't see how Canada is calling anybody's bluff by letting Russia play games. Calling Russia's bluff would be cancelling the permit if Russia doesn't take delivery promptly and as is, and not to issue any further exemptions. If you don't see the dancing bear, it is you who is doing the dancing.

Putin doesn't bluff, and sooner Western leaders realize this then less problems they cause to their citizens.

The contract states that the turbine is to be handed over DIRECTLY from the repair facilities to Gazprom with no interlocutor (middle-man) between that process, to ensure that no damage to the turbine is possible, and to ensure that the warranty stipulations are honoured. Instead of that, the turbine went through the hands of potentially DOZENS of middlemen, and thus the stipulations of the warranty, for the repair and coverage for losses are null and void. I wouldn't accept the turbine under such conditions either.

If you create problems on Russia then Putin will respond. We called it‘’action and reaction." That's the way it is, Canada. Freaking THINK!
  • I cannot imagine for a minute that Canada is the only place on earth where turbines can be made. In my 40 + years working, Germans are pretty much the best machinists.
