Undertale is probably one of the biggest Indie games to ever exist and I know next to nothing about it so I decided to do a first time blind run.

I do love how everyone upon seeing Papyrus defaults to the same two voices. That's just what he sounds like!
  • @freddi00
I love that the entire Undertale community has a shared braincell that makes everyone give Papyrus the exact same voice

Genocide route being called "Masochist route" already got me to sub lmao
  • @golesh-ow5dp
A fun fact : undertale reached many people. Weirdly Sans Undertale reached more

32:20 Temmie is special because she's named after one of the game's artists.
Fun fact, in the Japanese version Temmie will sometimes say, in a masculine tone with a fancy font, "heh... you've just entered the pits of hell". This was done specifically to mess with people who've played both versions

My favorite thing to hear at the start of a blind Undertale run is:
"No experience points? But I need to level up!"
The evil mastermind in my brain starts drumming his fingers together and petting the cat on his lap while whispering "Good... goooooood..."

"I can't survive without XP" is a perfect summary of how Undertale shook up the rpg landscape, flipping what would normally reward you to emotionally punish you, and what would normally make the game harder, to instead make it so much more emotionally satisfying.

every time he says theres a loose end for something even though there 100% isnt HURTS

50:14 its actually a decently easy fight, but they do a really good job at tricking people into thinking it's hard. The less hp you have, the less damage you take. Its pretty clever, because it makes you feel like youre hanging on by a thread the entire fight and you won by sheer luck

Mostly every time you feel confused or disappointed, it's because it's shown or resolved in another route! The game actually changes a lot between the major runs
  • I REALLY suggest doing the pacifist run before the genocide run, because:

    1. You're currently missing huge, extremely crucial narrative details from the pacifist run. Without those, a lot of what happens in Genocide won't make sense.

    2. Genocide is a SLOG. It's designed to emulate those classic mind-numbing RPG grinds, so you can't just kill every monster you meet, you have to keep running around every area until the random encounters stop. It's a whole meta-textual thing.

I love that papyrus's voice is fucking omnipresent everybody comes up with it on their own and it's the same voice evry time
  • @longc35
36:50 You can see that Alphys is actively trying to give you the answers to the quiz, just mentioning for future play throughs in case you didn’t notice.
  • @seyvetch7863
10:07 reading signs on walls at that part gives clues to solving that puzzle

48:00 I think the point of him just nodding sadly, implying he's aware of the inevitability of your victory, is meant to show how despite the fact he knows he'll never succeed on the path he's taken (both literally and figuratively), he feels bound to do it (both by duty and by sunk cost)
  • @ShayyTV
    Glad you enjoyed the game!
  • @MsQueenOfDance
30:44 It doesn't matter what you pick when Papayrus asks you what you're wearing. He has a different line for each choice which rats you out either way.
  • @aceaight
I think you can decide for yourself if you want to do a pacifist or genocide run. However, a pacifist run is required to understand the full story and complete lose ends. a genocide run is fully optional. Also a tip for the genocide run, You have to kill everything in every area before continuing, if you leave an area with some random monster still alive, the game will prevent you from commiting full genocide.
  • @nairdacnalbel
    "dog marriage"
    "yes you read that correctly"
has to be one of the most effective jokes in a game I've ever seen. you absolutely are going to read it again.

“Suddenly I feel like I’m home”. That song is called Undertale and is partially a reprise of the song called Home
