What a pleasure to see Number 7 patrolling the Land of the Monuments.

Believe it or not, I saw this entire game on television in suburban Washington. I was 7 years old. The reason I can be sure this is the one I saw is the triple play. That was something I had never seen before--and didn't see again for a very long time.

I remember collecting baseball cards avidly in the mid 50s. I almost never got a Mickey Mantle or a YOGI BERRA. But I got plenty of Wayne Terwilligers,Ed Fitzgeralds, Pete Runnells.

Thanks for this video. I wrote and spoke to many of these guys. I enjoyed this clip, as I can see the stories come alive.

Great to see # 5 Pete Runnels playing early in his career. Runnels went on to be the American League batting champion twice, in 1960 and 1962 while playing for the Red Sox.

The crowd shots showing a full Yankee Stadium made me laugh because the actual attendance that day was 2117. Thatā€™s why you see all the empty seats in the game action scenes. It was the last few games of the season, the Yankees have been eliminated by the Cleveland Indians who played in the series that year.

Thank you for this film! This is great! If only that stadium was still standing......

Those monuments being in play in play in center field are amazing. Not sure I've ever had that good a look at them on film before. Beyond that, a guy actually choking up on the bat and both starting pitchers still in the game in the 7th, unheard of today.

What a fantastic shot of the young Mickey Mantle racing from first to third!

Great shots of the real Yankee Stadium that, thank God I got to see as a kid before it got neutered in the 70's. I wonder why the Scooter wasn't playing in this game.

Wow....the first Triple Play in Yankee Stadium history on film ! This is great . As a first baseman, you'd think he'd instinctively throw to 2nd after catching that line drive to get the lead runner first. I guess being able to see where the runners were, he knew he'd have time to step on first for the force play. It really was a great play.

What people today don't realize is that when they called this "The Game of the Week", they meant it. There was one baseball game broadcast per week on national TV. It was always a day game. That was it. More than not it tended to feature the Yankees. There was no instant replay either, and color TV was still a few years in the future at best.

Ray Bloch was a composer, songwriter, conductor, pianist, and arranger for orchestras in radio and TV. This production was syndicated across the country (except NY), a production company with his name still exists. With a crowd of less than 3k, must have seemed like an intra-squad game, Weiss and Topping must have smarted on that. Shadows from light stand out in front of the plate gotta help pitchers. Yanks played Tribe pretty even that year, Cleveland win streak of 11 in September sealed it. Crowd clips from another day.

Was there a ā€œquarantineā€ sign on the ticket office at Yankee Stadium that day? Thatā€™s Yankee fans for you. Five straight World Series wins and over 100 wins when this game was played and they donā€™t even bother to show up. Yeah, the Injuns had already clinched and it was a weekday dame, but couldnā€™t even 5000 fans show up? That same day, Detroit playing at Baltimore, the 5th & 7th place teams, outdrew this game. I like how they cut in a few shots of the bleachers where theyā€™re full, but in a long shot thereā€™s nobody there. Way to go Yankee fans!

If Dragnet were a baseball game production. Nothing but the facts.

Didn't know "the Moose" wore number 53 when he came up. Switched to 14 at some point afterwards.
