WELL! This one is odd. Normally I teardown engines. However, every car that comes through our auto recycling facility gets crushed for space savings on the car body hauler, after its stripped of course.
I felt like it would be fun to see how flat we could make this 1994 Honda Civic Sedan with our loader. Normally I would never spend this much time making a car flat as all I really need to do is smash the roof to fit more cars on the trailer BUT that seemed boring.
We dismantle and save all of the good parts prior to this, and by good parts I mean parts I know we can sell, sell as cores, etc. There are some parts that don't have a lot or any value and the space they take up plus the labor required to remove easily outweighs anything we could get for it. I don't like wasting good parts which is exactly what got me into this business. I hate seeing complete cars with good parts go to the shredder, its wasteful and ruins good parts in front of people who can use them. I wish I had infinite space to save more, but I have to keep my doors open and parts moving so I dedicate the shelves and labor towards parts that make us money.
I love these old civics, I get a few a year and not only do they part out very well, the customers for these parts are some of the best because they love their old civic and I can't blame them. They are the cars that Honda built their reliability branding from.

I know this isn't everyones cup of tea, so give me some ideas on how I could improve this type of video OR some other aspects of the business you'd like to watch.

As always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!

-Eric

The last time I saw something that crushed, I was looking at my hopes and dreams.

I love how you directly targeted the third brake light like it owed you money.

All the other cars in the yard: "Stop, stop... He's already dead!":

I drive big machines like this every day for work but never have the opportunity to destroy stuff, seeing this is therapeutic. Good stuff Eric!
  • That looks a lot like the Civic I use as a secure shed to keep my collection of priceless, historically significant water pumps in. Hope I remembered to rehouse them before I sent it for...uh oh...😮
  • Your two kids are gonna have so much fun as they grow up with you being their dad

A solid promo for GoPro. Now we know why it's the camera of choice for extreme sports fanatics who live well into their 30's.

For some reason there is something very soothing about watching stuff get smashed.

I can confirm the bit about modern Civics. My 2019 EX-L was rear-ended this Sunday. Stopped at a red light and a Ram 1500 hit me at about 60 mph. Caved in the bumper and trunk lid, smashed my tail lights, and... my girlfriend and I walked away without so much as a bruise. The case of wine I had secured against the back of the trunk where the impact occurred even survived. Hit hard enough it tilted the seats back and jiggled the stalks hard enough to turn my brights and wipers on. Not sure if they'll total it yet, but it strictly has body damage. It was drivable, albeit not safely because it's missing the tail lights. No frame or drivetrain damage to speak of. If it is totaled, I will absolutely buy another. The fact that it handled that sort of impact so well without us being hurt? Well worth the headaches of newer cars.

Subtlety is your great asset Eric. The Civic never knew you were there. Stealth by Case! Well done. The fast forward had me howling!

"Here's your first project car." Eric, to his oldest child.

Appreciate your insights regarding "modern" car structures... would be interesting to have you "attack" one in a similar way that you flattened this one so we could see the difference in the structures...

That's gotta be more fun than paperwork 🎉
