For those who might think it’s impossible to just open up a book in a foreign language, try starting out with something super easy like a childrens book. Since children are also learning to speak, the book will be a great starting point for learning the language.

- 10 minutes of reading anything - 10 minutes of listening to anything - 10 minutes of speaking about anything - 10 minutes of writing about anything - learn 5 new words per day

To learn 5 new words a day is no problem. Remembering them the next day is a different story!

Here's how I learned Japanese and Spanish in 1 year. -Be addicted to youtube -Make a new youtube account and change your youtube region and language to Japanese or spanish -Learn the top 500 most used words of these 2 languages -Consume media that only uses these 2 languages -expand your vocabulary -start learning the japanese writing system -then just fix your grammar

ESL teacher and a multilingual here. My advice to my students is always to incorporate the language you want to study on things you like. The absolute best thing is watching movies in that language WITH SUBTITLES ALSO IN THAT LANGUAGE. When you watch something while reading subs, you'll automatically read in harmony with the speaker. This will improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Yes, at first it'll be extremely frustrating since you'd have to pause and translate often. But there's no shortcut to increasing vocabulary. But trust me it's so much easier today since you can translate on your phone. Back then i had to get up and look at physical dictionary and dictionaries don't have a section for expressions or informal words. This method is tough, but you'll improve dramatically fast! AND you'll be doing something you like anyways to reduce the frustration.

Linguistics major here - he is definitely not wrong. The most important part of fluency is practice and exposure. By forcing yourself into a target language environment you will inevitably pick up on stuff (start with small things like changing your phone settings to your target language). And by speaking (doesn't matter how bad your grammar is, just mumble to yourself during the day) you will accustom yourself to forming phrases and in no time you'll feel the language as the flexible living fluid that it is. Edit because so many people seem to misunderstand what I meant: I'm mot talking about learning a language, I'm talking about the ways of achieving fluency while speaking and understanding it.

REALLLL I studied like this but used hours, so for 4 hours a day Monday to Friday, 3 months straight. I went from not knowing the language at all to being able to pronounce at a native level and was able to hold basic conversation with native speakers. I admit I still have a long way to go but hearing native speakers tell me my pronunciation is perfect really keeps me motivated to study more and improve myself

As a german I have never heard a non native speaker speak like a native, except for dutch people. I rlly wanna hear ur german.

Another thing I would recommend is to set the language preference on your phone, apps, electronics,etc to the language you're learning. Helps get you out of your comfort zone and gets you actively using the language

Little tip when it comes to vocabulary - Look at messages with friends to choose words that you actually use. Gaming, makeup, true crime, gardening, carpentry... Depending on your interests, you're going to need very different words to have a real conversation. You can learn the word for 'giraffe' later.

Once you’ve become comfortable in the 4 main variations of the language, I believe that it’s a good idea to surround yourself with native speakers and use it on a daily basis.
