People ask me all the time, what keyboard should I get? In this video I visit a music store (Guitar Center), review some brands, and provide some recommendations on what I would do if I was buying my first digital piano today.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS: I'm not sponsored by any of these companies. My recommendations are based completely on my personal experiences over the past 10+ years buying and playing keyboards such as Casio, Yamaha, Kawai, Roland, and others.

I was so pleasantly surprised when you mentioned Seong-Jin Cho. What a pianist... Literally my favourite young pianist by far

I recommend kawai es920 above any of those mentioned providing you have funds for one. Built in speakers are better than they should be and action is very fast/virtuosic. You should aim to get a dp with triple sensors also, most are now. The es920 has counterweights, although it's still a folded action, unlike mp11se, which has the nicest feeling action, but actually probably not as fast aa es920 which is cheaper and has built in speakers and weighs half as much.

Yeah, digital pianos have many advantages when it comes to comfort. But i prefer the acoustic piano any day of the week. Just the feeling of pressing the key and starting the mechanics is an awesome feeling 😍

Great to see that you are making different types of videos and enjoying yourselves

I bought a 49 key keyboard that had everything you said to stay away from and I think it’s perfectly fine for my needs. I don’t want to perform for anyone or even study I just wanted something to play around on. It was only 55 dollars from guitar center, worth every penny. Glad I didn’t spend 500 dollars on a massive one.
  • I'm planning to buy one with all the keys, so its nice to hear from a real pro pianist for some advice!

I have a fully weighted 88 key Korg and it's not the most crazy advanced piano but I really like it. Sounds really nice and haven't had any issues yet. I've been pretty hard on it as well.

I bought myself a Master Keyboard on ebay for 60$ as a first "piano" to check if, after playing the guitar, this instrument was something for me (and yeah, this was a quick "well, why not" decision). I didn't want to waste 1000$ for an instrument i wasn't interested anymore weeks later. There's nothing wrong with buying cheap first, if you know the downsides. Either buy something more expensive real soon, or at least not having wasted that much money on an instrument which only catches dust. It's also hard to know whats important for yourself, if you're an absolute beginner. This was a way to dip in my toes, and some months later, decide what's important for me. I got a used Roland after that and now i'm playing a Casio PX-S1000 for 2 years, which i love.

He look so incredibly happy in this video and I honestly understand, he's in a music store. A music store is literally the greatest thing ever invented.
  • "Look at this, if you see a keyboard that has these kinds of keys, stay away. Unless you're like three years old." - Lionel says as he plays coincidentally on THE SAME DIGITAL KEYBOARD THAT I HAVE
  • Lol, 3 grands are such an underestimate for how far you can go with digital piano I know a nord lover got a stage 3 just for learning piano (but also for the synth and gig functionality)
  • @liliaye8183
It is so fun to watch the most enthusiastic pianist Lionel to recommend the best Price-Quality digital piano to audiences! Valuable information and good arrangement of the video! Enjoy to watch!

I just bought Yamaha P-125 last week (it was still $700) and i am super happy you recommend it as well. I honestly just went to the store and went through all the digital piano they have available in store. I instantly loved it compared to the other ones. You can tell the difference for real
  • Dude your energy is off the hook! I love it! Keep it Up Thank You!
  • @Yvez97
Like the new video concept, Also great for people interested in getting into playing piano's/keyboards themselves. Keep up the good work Lionel.
  • @polka678
Great video, I love the energy you bring to the video.
  • BROOOO I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! Can you do a video on what brands and what to look for when buying a actual piano? Like an upright or grand piano! That would be so cool.
