Keep in mind that many of these actors did serious drama acting for most of their careers & this was their first comedy; that's why the deadpan delivery is so effective.

That slight pause before "You can't take a guess..." is the best single moment in the entire movie. Perfect use of timing.

A very classic scene between two well known actors at the time who were known for dramatic and serious roles. This was the perfect way to break them into deadpan comedy. My only regret with the airplane movies is that Robert Hayes never had a scene with Peter Graves.

A great movie. Once, at work, many years ago, mid 80s I think, one of my colleagues had a mole on his face that wouldn't stop bleeding, so he said he might go to the hospital about it. Our secretary said ":why, what is it", and all four of us in the office were each bursting to say, and did together, "it's a big building full of doctors and nurses, but that's not important right now". Of course we all laughed a lot, except the secretary, who had no idea why we said that!!! Happy days.
