For Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King, it was fittingly a force of nature, a snowstorm, that brought them together in 1976. 46 years later, the duo is stronger than ever and admits that despite their innate differences – the extroverted King loves a good soiree while Winfrey is happiest at home reading a book – the pair has never had a serious argument. The foundation of their longstanding friendship? Unwavering support for each other no matter what. “[It’s] having somebody who not only stands in the gap for you, but is happy for your happiness,” says Winfrey in this year's The Beautiful Issue.

“We usually just hang out and do nothing” you know it’s true friendship when you can just enjoy each other’s company without having to do anything.😊

Love how they finish each other’s sentences. True best friends!

My mother and her best friend have been friends for more than 60 years. This is THEM, totally! True friendship is not easy, and is definitely underrated in today's age....IMO....

I love the level of respect they have for each other.
  • I wish all women could experience true and authentic friendships such as this. Many live vicariously through the friendship between Oprah and Gayle. So ladies, keep shining and loving on each other. We see you and it's beautiful. 💐
  • It is so beautiful to see two unrelated people by genetics to love each other so much like sisters, mother, son and daughter. Their love is so pure, genuine, and angelic.

As a 22 year old it’s amazing to think that I could find a lifelong best friend in my twenties. It’s just nice to know that best friends aren’t just a high school thing. ❤

Every soul deserves a friendship like this. I truly wish I did. God bless your friendship Oprah and Gayle.
  • Love their friendship. Their friendship is based on each other being happy for each other and their accomplishments. Blessed is the man who can find a friend.
  • I love this! Love is patient, love is kind - never calling someone out of their name, being rude or raising your voice. Genuinely loving someone, taking an interest in their life, their interests, cheering them on, being supportive through the good and bad. Sharing laughter and tears, holding each others secrets- God I pray I find a friend like this before I die 💜 and I pray that I am this type of friend for someone else.

Their friendship is more like a ‘soul connection, kindred spirit’ friendship❤
  • My best friend is my Gayle - we met in College, I was 17 she was 18. We are not 49 & 50 - 32 years standing. We have NEVER had an argument -- disagreement yes! Never disrespectful or hurtful.
  • I had a bestie for 52 years. We shared everything. We had our ups and downs but always came back together. However, in 2019 I was hospitalized for 9 months in CA. My life went from doing ok to losing everything! My bestie said "come back to PA and stay with me". From the time I arrived things were strange. We had never lived together before, let alone with her husband. It didn't help that 2 1/2 months later covid-19 happen. I tried to help out around the house and out in the yard, as best i could. But, instead I was in the way. After living with her and her husband for eleven months and several big big blow ups, I moved into a senior only high rise. We very rarely speak. She went from calling us "family we choose" to, I was "a guest in her house". Naturally, there is a lot more to this story, but the fact remains after 52 years, she broke my ❤️! Be careful! You never know!
  • The "another black dress" moment really hit me. To have friends be happy when you win is the ultimate

I say this with complete respect, however I really feel for Oprah. I can't even imagine not having anyone in your family to really be there for you. Both my parents failed me, however I at least had both my grandmother and Aunt that I could call no matter what and they would be loving and take an interest in me. I can't imagine not having anyone. That's so hard and painful.
  • Such a great example of a great friendship with healthy boundaries and total acceptance of each other.

Grandma said, "If you find one true friend in a lifetime, you're doing good."
