I went to the premier in 1977 at age 14 & went on to watch it an additional 13 times. My friends & I would sneak on the train at Suffolk Downs station in East Boston, go to the Sack Charles 123 theater in Boston, watch the film, stay in our seats, & watch it again. They never threw us out.

45 years later I still get goosebumps when I hear the Star Wars theme.

This brings back memories, this really blew our minds in 1977.
  • I was there, opening day, in 1977. It was The Stanley Theater, in Vancouver. 70mm Dolby. We stood in line for 5 hours. It was a mind blowing experience. When the credits faded, the music twinkled, we dropped down to see the planet...then the ships took over the screen. I went in an innocent 8 year old boy. I left with a heart full of magic and dreams.
  • I'm 7 years old again with my dad - I'll never forget it! - We were all truly blessed to have experienced that as kids in the 70's when it was fresh ❤

That first shot is so iconic and drew us all in immediately cause it looked so vast and REAL! =)

My parents told me that they saw this at a drive-in when they were dating in 1977. I can't even imagine how cool of an experience that was.

of all the star wars films this will always be the best

Two great movies in 1977, both with incredible opening sequences, Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. A great year for movies.
  • First, one has to appreciate that you weren't seeing this on your 70" flat-screen or even your home theater. No, you were sitting in a dark cinema, (no cell phones), popcorn in hand with 700 other people, with a great, big, glorious W-I-D-E-S-C-R-E-E-N projection in front of you. Plus, absolutely NOTHING like Star Wars had ever been seen before: The HUUUUGE ships, dazzling FX, characters, story, music, imagination, ALL of it a perfect storm of movie making. First, the opening "crawl", set to John William's rousing score, then we look down to see planets in front of us. Suddenly, the first ship zooms overhead, laser bolts flying back and forth. You knew they were running from something but . . . HOLY SMOKES!! The ginourmous star destroyer, its rumbling engines rattling your teeth, glides into view from somewhere behind you, so close you want to duck and look back over your shoulder. And then it just keeps on coming and there's just more, . . . and more . . . and MORE, almost as if there would be no end. And in that moment, you and the 700 other people all KNEW the next two hours were going to be pure magic! And they were. :oD
  • This looks great! Some grain and specks here and there, but I like that, as opposed to ultra smoothness. Grain is film, and it makes it look more real. Obviously not too grainy that it detracts from the movie (that's not this) but enough that it looks like film

I was 11 and I went to the premiere show in Melbourne. Everyone in the audence was dressed as Storm Troopers and a few Darth Vaders as well. I almost peed my pants 🤣watching the opening scene the movie just blew my mind! What a great day in my life ❤I will always remember it and how high I felt after leaving the theater. Thanks George you rock 🤘

Realistic, gritty and just mind blowing...Sci-fi in the late 70s/early 80s was just better. Traveller RPG forever.
  • The colour is spot on, particularly capturing the blue/grey chambray of the AC security men's shirts. It also looks wider compared to the blu ray aspect ratio
  • @maple1255
Exceptionally well done! It brings back happy memories of going to the theater to see this several times when it was first released.
  • @joen4127
This is great! So nice to also hear the original score.
