I've got the same motor but can I suggest that because it is a high torque/low speed motor used a lot for lifting people in hoists etc if you had rigged the motor to the front pedal sprocket you would then have all the gears to go faster on the flat and the grunt to get you up the steepest of hills.

Did you connect the battery in parallel or series and please specify the volts in battery and motor
