Occupational therapy (OT) is a healthcare service designed to help individuals increase independent living skills and improve wellbeing. OT alone cannot solve the homelessness crisis but you cannot solve the homelessness crisis without OT. Dr. Tyminski is interested in improving occupational participation and quality of life for populations experiencing marginalization through providing occupation-based services targeted at improving life skills and community re-integration. She collaborates with local community agencies to provide programming to address concerns of occupational justice related to increased participation in survival occupations among those experiencing mental illness, homelessness, or recent return to community from incarceration. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

  • Fantastic talk, as a mental health OT I am delighted to hear about your work. Thankyou Dr Tyminski.
  • I did not complete my occupational therapy course. But my favourite teacher worked with the homeless and mental health. She was and is an inspiration. She deserves respect. She works in mental health and this area is so stigmatised.
  • Also really sad to hear about the underfunding OT has while working with the homeless population
