Biggest Mistake Physical Therapists Make When Starting a Business

Published 2022-04-27
The biggest mistake physical therapists make when starting a business is hiring yourself as the treating therapist.

You are an amazing therapist and great at what you do. That is the problem. Because you are so good, when patients start working with you they don't want to work with anyone else.

If you want to build a business that affords you time freedom and financial security, don't hire yourself as the primary treating therapist.

I don't understand how you'd be able to hire a PT before you leave your own job. Where do you get the money from?
  • Ah this makes sense for me. Because it's only been me for a year, I'm finding it hard to give away clients to my new ICs not only because I'm used to the patients and love them but they love me and don't want someone new. But I've got to to move forward and have the time to build and grow. Thanks Tony! 😊

Tony, you have been an amazing resource to me and my company! Quick q, did you have to file/submit IRS Form 8832 Disregarded entity during PTAN filing? Thanks so much!

Great insight. I like how it sounds but I struggle to visualize absorbing the additional costs up front from a practical perspective or starting a business while in a full time job. Choices, choices I suppose!

Great and very informative, thanks. A question: can a non physical therapist own or buy a PT clinic in Texas ?
