" OSCAR WILDE " Ferry Terminal , Pembroke Dock 3 Sept 2023

Published 2023-09-04
New OSCAR WILDE docking at Irish ferries terminal . I have tried for several years to video this operation , but today 12:40 caught her just right .She has to turn almost 90 degrees starboard to come across the channel , then reverse onto the loading ramps ( No pressure then ?) At 4:00 he is actually using the rivers current to swing her stern around .
She is a Fast Ro pax ferry/cruiser , built by Aker Finnyards , in Helsinki as "STAR" and launched 2006 . she is currently the largest ferry operating in the Irish Sea . I was suprised that out in the open you can hear her thrusters , (3:11 .) like a waterfall , or a jetliner going by high up ! Her top speed 27 kts , she is 186 m in length and displaces 36,249 gt . Pembroke to Rosslare voyage is 4 hours .( If delayed , she has been able to make up 1 hour during the crossing , that's impressive !)
