Batman: Caped Crusader | Season 1 Review

Published 2024-07-31
Rob Logan reviews Season 1 of Prime Video's new series, Batman: Caped Crusader.

Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.

The series is a reimagining of the Batman mythology through the visionary lens of executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. Based on DC characters, Batman: Caped Crusader hails from Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. Along with Abrams, Reeves and Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader executive producers include Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register.

Perfect review thank you, I was actually starting to believe corporations are removing all negativity because all my comments and reviews got removed. I was more blunt about it but this is perfect. I personally am disappointed, with this many changes they should have just made their own new show and id be very happy about it. But right now I'm reluctant to acknowledge this as a batman show.

I really enjoyed the show as it was darker and more adult. I like how they went back to some of the older comics like the original portrayal of clayface. I think Harley can become more like the one we are familiar with. I loved the new penguin character but wish it was a completely newly created character instead of gender swapping. Nothing will replace TAS Batman but this will definitely keep me watching this series.

I really didn't understand the changes to the various villains, what was the purpose for the change and did it add to the story. Penguin, why the gender swap??? Just so she has kids???? It felt more like the shock value. Harley, why the outfit? You aren't the silly sidekick to the Joker in this. Two-Face, was a prick of a DA doing anything to get ahead before the change but then they say he was about justice after the change.

Im a few episodes in and love the show so far. Like you im super picky about Batman voice actors even some fan favourites I don’t like. I felt Roger Smith from Arkham Origins sounded a little too unnatural. I could never see that voice coming out of a real guy. What made Kevin Conroy’s voice work was how natural it sounded. The guy in this show got that and delivered something amazing. Wish the animation was a little more “dirty” idk how to describe what im trying to say. It looked too clean in this. Also please add more Batman to the show lol. He feels like a side character.
