Can We Survive The Biggest Bike Race In America?

Published 2023-11-26
Ollie and Hank decided to enter the biggest bike race in America, El Tour de Tucson. At 100 miles long, this was a test of endurance, but also speed. They tried to break the 4-hour 100-mile time barrier. Will Ollie and Hank manage to hit their target or fall behind the peloton?

  • I was the guy in red & black riding with Hank for 70 miles. Massive kudos to him for commentating while in the break. He was courteous and kept encouraging the group. Class act! -Tyler

I got new found respect for GCN presenters. Not only they are good at presenting, they can really walk the walk.

Impressive doesn’t even begin to cover this accomplishment. Top 20 in a 7000+ peloton. Congratulations to Hank and Ollie.
  • 30 min recap of how Ollie went from being the donkey that got dropped by the GCN retirees a couple of years ago to this thoroughbred effort would be great! and Hank... class is permanent!
  • @spilgib44
Best GCN vid in ages, well done and there was no whinging about how hard it was, brilliant!
  • Man... Ollie has come a long way... he looked like he was ready to go out and do another 4 hours!
  • I was there this year, finished in 4 hrs, 19mins. Such a fast race and the weather was perrrrrfect! No wind, 70 degrees at the finish. I averaged just over 23.1 mph, not bad for 55 years old 😊 The key is to stay in one of the two fast groups that form after the Pistol Hill climb.

Work as GCN presenters and stay competitive - impressive. Huge bow of respect!

We loved having you guys in Tucson! It’s a ripping–fast race, and it’s the closest thing us mere mortals have of a Tour de France-type experience. People are lined-up all along the route with cowbells cheering you on. It’s an amazing day! Thanks for being here!

Kudos to Hank and Ollie for finishing Platinum in the 40th. El Tour de Tucson. As a Tucson area resident, I'm stoked to see our area on GCN. I've personally ridden the El Tour de Tucson 10 or so times and it's always a blast, though I've never finished under 4 hours. I certainly hope you all also had the opportunity to ride up our scenic and famous Mt. Lemmon highway, 40 km of climbing. It's an iconic ride in these parts. GCN should also consider sending GMBH riders out to ride the 24Hours of the Old Pueblo race, another epic event.
  • 100 miles in 3:41! INSANE! Great Job. Love the Race videos. GCN should do more of these to showcase these awesome events.
  • I live in Tucson and have ridden the Tour 3 times. I'm absolutely chuffed to see Hank and Ollie shine light on my favorite event.
  • @hagakuru
Absolutely brilliant coverage of America's largest mass start cycling race! The fact that you both participated made it even better. You should be sure to do more local events like this in the future because it really promotes and ramps up the enthusiasm for cycling. Well done!
  • @Ostsol
A hundred miles in four hours. That "SPEED LIMIT 25" sign at the starting line is so appropriate! Amazing effort in that race!
  • @ryansvedberg1635
NO WAY!! The el Tour de Tucson is what got me interested in cycling in the first place. There was a year the route went right in front of my house, and I was so excited when my mom brought me out to see the riders. From then I started riding my crummy old bike longer than I ever had. That following summer I watched the Tour de France for the first time, and saved up enough money to get en entry level road bike. I have been watching you all for years, and earlier this year I told myself I’d get back into it after being inspired once more from a few key videos. I signed up for the tour and started training again. A few years later since the first few times I road in the el Tour and now with kids, I was much slower, but enjoyed being able to be part of such a wonderful event again. I’m glad you all got to enjoy it as much as I did, thank you for visiting our old pueblo home!
  • @batporio
I guess that is the result of Hank always being up for any tourture that you throw his way! Adversity builds up strenght and character and he showed that in this race. Well done lads!
  • @jesselobo3213
Kudos, to ride that fast and still be able to communicate to the viewers was jaw dropping.
  • @gcn
Would you ever try El Tour de Tucson?🚲
  • @Jaqaroo
Fantastic efforts lads! Brilliant performance! Well done!
  • @matthewdutton119
Awesome accomplishment. Amazing to not just ride with but to finish with current and former top pros. Props to the video editing. I wish this was an hour longer… couldn’t get enough of it.
