It's one of the oldest mysteries in the Smokies, a 6-year-old's disappearance more than four decades ago. Nearly 50 years later, the disappearance of young Dennis Martin in the Great Smoky Mountains still haunts those who helped in the massive search. bit.ly/2p4VSF1

I've always thought that there's a lot more to this one than what's on the surface. The fact that the green berets arrived on the scene out of nowhere amps the mystery factor
  • @amyntut
What bothers me is the Green Berets were there. They never get involved with a missing person's case unless something very wrong is suspected .They also searched by themselves , had their own communication system, and never shared any info of anything they saw or might have found.

GOD bless this man, and especially Dennis Martin, and his family.

Wait, I didn’t know that running man jumped into a van and I thought the kids were playing hide and seek, Dennis hid behind a bush and never came out.
  • @SkaterRoo
The fbi guy in charge hung himself shortly after this! I’ve never heard this version of the story. It contradicts a lot of things. I can’t imagine how the parents feel.rip Dennis
  • There is a much older interview with the same individual, and he tells a different version of the story than he did here.

2:00 They cut him off at a very important key evidence and this guy is changing the real story. He said a "Dirty man" ran away, also there was never a "Van". *(The Real Sighting: Tourist Harold Key and his family, heard an "enormous, sickening scream" and shortly thereafter witnessed a man covered in hair seemingly hiding and carrying something on his shoulder. Park Rangers(This guy being one of them) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation concluded that there was insufficient evidence to link the sighting to Martin's disappearance, particularly given that Key's sighting was approximately five miles away from where Martin disappeared(A hiker later proved this wrong by walking the distance in 1 hour). The sighting occurred a little while after Dennis went missing. The family also said the person of the woods had something slumped over its shoulder, and the highly visible red color matching the shirt of Martin the day he went missing*

He'd be 59 or 60, now. What a shame for his poor family, to have to live with this must be terrible. With so many people involved in the search, how did he slip through the net? It boggles the mind.

Keep in mind that this guy was one of the rangers and they were part of the very flawed investigation. So his account and opinions should be taken with a grain of salt.
  • The Dennis Martin case would drive any parent nuts. I couldn't imagine what his father went through
  • @juarezmenegassi
Its baffling that many important details are never mentioned: the other family that approach Mr. Martin ASKING for the boys to play together, were named Martins, as well. The Key family which told the FBI what they saw, asked them to show the location and to meet them there and they said NO. And the FIB investigator, responsible for that case, who commited suicide afterwards.
  • Happy birthday Dennis if you’re still alive or up in heaven🎂🎉🎊🎉🎁🎁🎁🎁

Every time a kid goes missing there's a bad rainstorm, snowstorm that holds search crews back sad
  • @leelotungal819
I have never heard about the guy running into a van? I always heard he just disappeared after the family saw them and was trying to avoid contact staying behind trees.
  • @countyline74
Notice at the 2;00 mark they cut a part out where he said "the father knew what" and it jumped to "he saw this dirty man". Hiding something? I think so.
  • @jacksong3085
So much contradicting info. I heard the man that was supposedly carrying Dennis ran up the mountain rather than into a van. Also I thought the kids were playing hide and seek. Which is true??
  • @dczhen4358
Can't imagine what it's like for the family such a mystery it's mind boggling
