For those who are reluctant to try chapulines, the “crickets” (grasshoppers) are picked from corn fields (not off the ground from random streets lol). Secondly, they roast the grasshoppers in red chile and they add lime and salt. They are toasty, not squishy. They have a light earthy taste. You don’t get sick from eating them. And they’re actually pretty good, especially with a cold beer.

My parents are from Oaxaca and we eat these almost every other week. My family really loves them. The way we do it is get the tortilla and lightly drizzle with water so it would soften a little then heat it up since it’s pretty hard and it could hurt your jaw if your not used to it. Then we take it off the stove and add our favorite toppings like the beans and cheese Gordon used which by the way it’s called “quesillo”. Some even add cabbage for a bit of bitterness. It’s best accompanied with a piece of meat like chorizo, pork, chicken, or a thin piece of beef called “tasajo”. What Gordon did was gourmet and oh man it looks so good. I’m glad he visited where my family comes from.

I'm from Oaxaca, living in Oaxaca, I appreciate your perfect pronunciation on the oaxaca food: mole, quesillo, crema, etc. and your effort on making if not 100 % original but really tasty looking tlayuda mr. Gordon

These kind of crickets here in Mexico are known as chapulines, really dealicious, salty, with some chile and lime are one of my favorite snacks.

Fricking Gordon Ramsay sprinkling roasted crickets on a tortilla street food, and I'm like "Yeah, don't skimp out on the crickets!"

Does anyone else eat food while watching Gordan Ramsay cook? It just seems to make the food you're eating 10x better, even if it's a pot noodle.
  • Comer una tlayuda hecha por una señora en la calle con su comalito es de las mejores experiencias que he vivido en mi vida

Imagine Ramsay waking up early morning making food for his children and sending them off to school. Now that a lunch I would want to eat from someone’s tiffin box 😂
