Einkorn Hamburger Buns Recipe...Just in Time for Warmer Weather.

Published 2021-03-31
Happy Wednesday all!

Things have started to warm up here in NE Kansas, and I'm sure that's happening across the country. I wanted to share the Einkorn Hamburger Bun recipe that I've come up with, so you all can enjoy future grilling. These buns are versatile. We've used them for veggie burgers, beef burgers, and toasted them and made salami sandwiches. I have even substituted almond milk and vegan butter to make them dairy free for my daughter who has a dairy allergy. Any which way you slice them, they are delicious!

A full list of ingredients is listed at the end of the video as well as here, to make for easy shopping.

Ingredients:
5 Cups Einkorn flour
1 tsp salt
1 packet or 2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast
5 TBSP Butter
1 Cup milk
2 large eggs

Hope you enjoy the video (including the little sneak peak of our ducklings) and have a great rest of your week!

Can’t wait to try your recipe. Can I ask where you got your baking stone?

Made your French bread! It was very good! Love to see Einkorn recipes! Thank you!
  • Like your recipe and they turned out lovely; beats the store bought buns, and I'm sure they're healthier, too! Your baby ducklings are adorable!

Thanks for this! I’m just starting to mill my flour and so far everything has been a flop!

Hi Monica, thanks for the great recipe. Have you also tried this with a sourdough or yeast levain? I also did 8 buns on a pizza stone, and they turned out beautiful. I found them just a bit yeasty, so was wondering if you've tried a levain. I also mill my own berries, so it's super cool to see you doing that too!
  • Wow. They bake beautifully 😍 Nice recipe 👍Can it be done without a mixer and still come out this good?
  • We gonna make some stuff and plant some stuff and film it all!!!!!!!

what was the texture? They look a little crumbly. I do understand that einkorn is a denser than most flours. Were they soft and somewhat spongy?
  • I might just be missing this info, but what temp should the oven be and how long do you bake? thanks

Can you use all purpose Einkorn?

Watching to Learn so I do not know, but I am suspicious the nut milk doesn't have sugar like cow milk and the plant butter is missing the fat (sugar) that cow butter has. So, maybe feeding the yeast a little extra sugar when you do your dairy free ones would increase your rise or to keep those carbs out do a table spoon or two less milk and once your mixing wet and flour together add that amount of vinegar.

Can I make hotdog buns with this?
  • My inner virgo wants me to tell you to seperate the dough evenly before you start shaping them please.
