This bird was sitting on our patio and did not fly away as I approached. I thought it was injured or stressed from a possible hawk attack, so I reached down to pick it up. To my surprise, it finger-mounted like a hand-fed pet.
I kept it overnight and released it the following morning, strong and healthy.

I found a baby bird in the road hopping up and down in a circle because the asphalt was burning it’s feet. There were no trees, nests or adults so I took him home. He was so young he had no feathers on 40% of his body. Feeding him was a real challenge but I managed to keep him alive. Later I taught him how to find crickets and insects before releasing him. But he kept coming back and so we let him live in our sunroom. He had a huge cage but the doors were kept open so he could fly all around the room. He actually housebroke himself as he would fly into the cage to relieve himself. Very intelligent he could solve puzzles. Loved company and flew to anybody coming to visit him. He grew into a beautiful red male. Unfortunately somebody reported me and he was confiscated and released again in the middle of winter. Hours later the head of the State Wildlife Commission called me to apologize. He was wonderful.

His wings were fine. He was born and raised in the wild. When I released him, he finally left the feeder and flew just fine.

Cardinals are of the least agressive of birds. Sir, you are one of very few to hold the almighty NORTHERN CARDINAL within petting reach!
  • Gorgeous, thank you for sharing this beautiful moment 🌹❤️🦋

This Cardinal was an adult wild bird. I kept him overnight and released him the following day as shown in the video.
