  • I'm a 75 yr old former Marine pilot. I ride my Goldwing as if I'm in combat, everything is trying to get me.

I got my license about 3 months ago. Wife had been riding for almost 20 years. She’s in a big club and everyone can’t believe I’ve only been riding for 3 months. I preach your content and say I practice a lot. Can’t thank you enough for what you do. Saving life’s one video at a time.

Similar thing happened to me in the twisties recently except the oncoming car wasn’t passing anyone. He was just in my lane coming straight towards me out of a blind curve. My reaction was the same as yours, Greg, although we weren’t going as fast. There was no shoulder so I just got as far to the right as possible and slowed way down. Fortunately, he saw me and got back in his lane. Then, today, someone cut across three lanes through a small gap between two cars, in the lane to my right, and cut me off. I was in the fast lane. Because of your advice, I was aware of them as soon as they changed lanes the first time and predicted they’d keep on coming. They never saw me until they looked in their rear view mirror. Fortunately, I saw them early and slowed down enough to not get hit. You are absolutely right… anything can happen at any time so always be prepared and practice. Thanks for all your videos and advice. By the way, I practice swerving at highway speeds when no one is around me. It’s already saved my life once when some hidden debris suddenly appeared in my lane when the truck ahead of me swerved, at the last second, to avoid hitting it himself.

68, riding for 44/all sport bikes. You can practice all kinds of shit- parking lots or track, but for me and my experiences…Practice your ANTICIPATION. In essence….EXPECT stuff. And I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Practice emergency braking and swerving regularly so in case something like this happens, your muscle memory will take over vs. panic. motojitsu.com/

Emergency braking is the first thing I practice on a new motorcycle Thanks 😊
  • @RoadReality
Heck yeah, man! Assume the worst, dress for the slide - things I practice and preach all the time. I'm not a great rider, so I practice these things on all rides, and situational awareness has certainly saved my bacon many many times. Great reminders here!

You do an amazing job to save people from serious injury. You are awesome!

I was just thinking about this 2 days ago. I moved Corpus Christi, TX a year and a half ago and I started slow drills and manuevers sessions on Fridays and I’m going to talk about this on our next session. I’m showing all the things I learned from Coronado PD Ride to Live Program, CA Superbike School, Yamaha Champ School, and Total Control classes.

Thank you for this! Your videos also have made me a better driver. Always anticipate and assume the worst. For me, sadly, riding isn’t riding. Riding is studying human behavior at high speeds. Always judging, anticipating, and knowing what to do if X happens. Steve McQueen once said, “You don’t have time to make two decisions. You only have time to make one and it must be right.”

This kind of situation happens to me every day. I have no luck. Going through red lights from cars every time I'm on a motorcycle.
  • This happened with me few months back it wasn't a car but another bike missed it by a few inches. Things I did:- 1. Lowered throttle. 2. Progressive breaking. 3. Counter Steered.
  • @SUBcyclist
You consistently provide us with solid, pragmatic, and tremendously useful advice. The day after I bought my first bike a couple of weeks ago, I went out to practice emergency braking. Every day I ride, I choose one thing to practice that you have talked about; swerving is a common one. Even before buying my bike, I watched your videos, and was instantly convinced to by good gear - I am definitely a gear-head now. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and knowledge with us.
  • @newlife155
I'm taking my Motorcycle course , yesterday our instructor said exactly what you said at 7:45 about pre ride warm up. He rides around the neighborhood to re acquaint himself with his machine and himself. Then he really heads on his way.
  • @TD2253
I always remember IPDE- Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute from Drivers Ed. But on a bike, IPDE - will work better practicing your courses to achieve the skills and muscle memory. Glad you avoided that potential disaster and makes a good learning point for new and seasoned riders.
  • @mhoeij
Car pulled out right in front of me as I was in the right lane going through green. Braked but didn't stop on time. By the time I could think any thoughts at all, the bike had already swerved around the car while I was braking. I didn't have time to decide to swerve, it just happened, and to be honest, I don't even know if it was luck or skill, because it was already over before I had time to think anything at all. So I guess that whatever you do on auto-pilot, that's what will happen.
  • @timralph9669
Thanks for the great reiminders! Im 71, and have been riding since I was 12. My last road bike was a 1000RR and Im now on a KLR650, weird! I learn/ relearn stuff every video. Excellent job!!!
  • Had 2 fun interactions yesterday. Had to swerve twice in 1 ride because of a cyclist pulling wide into the road from somewhere where I couldn't see him coming and a car suddenly pulling out of a parked space with no indication. Was quite happy with myself as in both instances I swerved with full control of my bike and without the danger of swerving too wide into oncoming traffic.
