I cut a Samsung Galaxy Right in half to see what's inside and take a closer look at the camera, it was amazing to see all of the tiny individual lens elements and components and how they are made, the parts are so small its pretty mind-blowing.

I'm thinking of making a warped perception episode on how cellphones work, tell me what you think!

P.S I know this has been done before but I also wanted to test my new rigs for 4K Ultra Macro which worked and looked amazing!

If you do an Iphone, you should send it to Louis Rossmann and just tell him it's a water damaged phone.

The "vibrator" is an antenna cable.

"i didnt know there was a battery when i cut it" lol
  • I'll remember this the next time I complain about my phone being too old. have me a deep appreciation of the effort into making one of these things.

The part called out as a vibration motor is a micro-coaxial cable for the antennas. Definitely an impressively clean cut though. I'm impressed that such fine features are so nicely intact without having been frayed by the cutting.
  • Excellent addition to the shop. Your fabricating and testing just leveled up dramatically! 👍 😃

This Cut looks way better than what the Dudes from the Waterjetchannel are doing! Love this Clean cut!

That cut was amazing! I couldn't believe how many of the small components stayed put and didn't get ripped out. If you have any old busted gopros or RC nitro engines sitting around they might be cool to see. What I'd really like to see cut is the phone line to those people that keep calling about my car warranty. That's a solid gold episode if you can arrange that one. :D

I've seen many Waterjet videos but I haven't seen cuts that clean and you said it was a dirty cut, more please.

The thing on the last lens is just the focus driver. For image stabilization, normally the entire camera is stabilized/moved. The technology is similar to the actuators on the laser on a CD player, only the feedback comes from a MEMS gyroscope instead of the laser phase interferometry/focus. The thing that looks like the vibrator could be the microwave antenna cable. It's a thin shielded cable. Routers have them, too. I'm not amazed about how they cram stuff inside there, I'm amazed how high can they set the prices for so few materials xD And then fill it with bad updates so you need to buy the next one. Ps: don't try with a new phone, the old IR fingerprint reader was interesting. Today they use capacitive readers. It's just a conductive sheet of metal. But you could have cut this one in more slices!! :-D I would like to see that! No, really: phone designs are getting simpler. You may get the processor and most components on one chip and then another chip for the sensors, another for the radios, one more for memory and storage, and that's it. You've been lucky the battery was "dried" up before cutting it xD

Crazy clean cut. Keep up what you do brother.

Done that once with a band saw and got suspended from school for it
  • @dagazenterprise
That's fascinating seeing all the lenses to focus the image! WOW!
  • @brucelester6918
That is an incredible machine! Such a precise cut without warping the phone.
  • The accompanying music following the cut definitely added value to the overall production.
