any public money spent on a stadium is a loss. stadiums are a losing deal for cities. studies have shown they bring nothing to cities. the whole economic value studies are a scam. they have no actual receipts to prove the return on investments. las vegas agreed with the study that stadiums bring no value to cities. except for las vegas because they have so much tourism. wait till their baseball stadium opens and no one shows up. if the stadium is such a great deal. why doesn't the team pay for the stadium and keep all the profits. because they are looking for some sucker to pay for a free stadium and the team pays nothing and keeps all the profits.

The Olympic Stadium in Montreal was a big waste of money. The various levels of government were still paying for it long after the Expos left. I don’t believe the retractable roof ever worked properly

America needs to get over its obsession with building newer and shinier baubles... Especially if the taxpayer is forking over the cash. 100% privately financed projects are one thing but public money that could go to many many other much needed infrastructure and nation-building projects? Not so much... All the facilities need to be built with 25-year minimum use clauses... Probably longer...

It's sad when people spend so much of their Tax dollars on these new stadiums and they are already past their prime right after they are built Now we are dealing with the same thing with Kauffman Stadium and alot of people here that I have talked to don't see what's wrong with Kauffman Stadium

Unless the tenant is paying for the stadium, it’s a waste of money. Billions are spent by governments under the guise it will bring jobs to the region. They’re all part time jobs and even those are being automated

The Georgia Dome was a needed complex for the Olympics and due to its location, contributed to the growth of Atlanta as a major convention host. Plus adding a dome stadium allowed for events that couldn’t be held at Atlanta Fulton County stadium, especially in the winter months.

It's funny how New Comiskey and Camden Yards were designed by the same architectural firm, opening a year apart. When New Comiskey opened I thought it was a refreshing modern departure from the multi use stadium era, although yes the upper deck is very steep. As a fan my biggest want is a good view of the game, followed by access to concessions and facilities where I don't have to wait forever in line. I'd honestly be happier to catch a game in one of the modern stadiums than have a view obstructed seat at Wrigley or Fenway (which I have...at both). But that's me, if the stakeholders have figured out that nostalgia sells more tickets, that's fine.

The Georgia Dome was vital for the 1996 Olympics. It staged Gymnastics in one half and Basketball in the other.

The Georgia Dome was really to young to go but it just didn't work with what the city needed. MBS is always being used for conventions and drawn bigger events than the dome ever could. Just to black out the dome it would take about 3 days and 200,000 dollars in rental and labor to install the black out curtain. Then not inculding the building couldn't take much load for shows.

Tampa Bay is going to build a new stadium and still have little attendance. I very much question baseball in Floridas success not during February and March.
  • They got a lot of use for the Georgia Dome. Super Bowls, Final 4s, Bulldogs and Falcons football, 1996 Olympics...it was not a waste of money. It was just that in an era of luxury suites they wanted something sparkling new.
  • @SupermanHopkins
New Comiskey was an eyesore the day they opened it. The Georgia Dome, on the other hand, was used during the 1996 Olympics. The timing is what made it obsolete, as no one was building stadiums with obsolescence in mind in 1992. Think about the Pontiac Silverdome and the Alamodome.

I’ve been to guaranteed rate field. The seats are very high and steep. The only thing really good about that place is the exploding score 2:20 board.
  • @withershin
Meanwhile in Toronto we have the 1989 Honda Civic EX of a stadium that's currently gettin' pimped. Grass? No but we have a sunroof that still works. The SkyDome doesn't die.
  • @54raynor
The plight of the Georgia Dome (and Turner Field) only makes Los Angeles all the more impressive as an Olympic city. They are still getting use out of facilities built for the 1932 Olympics.
  • @dvferyance
The Georgia Dome wasn't a waste of money it was the stadium that came after it that was.
  • @ryanmeech8630
I've mentioned in a comment on another video here, the color of the seats in a stadium SHOULD be irrelevant. If people sit in the seats, you can't see what color they are.
  • @jojorice
GA Dome wasn't a waste. It was a much better venue than the current Mercedes Benz stadium.
  • @kofender
At the time, we used to call it the Dumb Dome in Georgia. No one liked it. Everyone hated it. It was a terrible idea.
