Dr. Tyrone Hayes discusses his journey as a scientist: initially just a “young boy who really liked frogs,” he would go on to earn worldwide fame for his work on the harmful effects of the pesticide atrazine. Arguing that “those who have the privilege to know, have the duty to act,” Dr. Hayes details his decade-long feud with Syngenta, the manufacturer of atrazine, as well as his acute observation that those who suffer most from the environmental impacts of harmful chemicals tend to be the socioeconomically-disadvantaged and racial or ethnic minorities.
At the University of California, Berkeley, and in ponds around the world, professor Tyrone Hayes studies frogs and other amphibians. He's become an active critic of the farm chemical atrazine, which he's found to interfere with the development of amphibians' endocrine systems. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

this guy is really cool and his research is legit groundbreaking. its a shame insanely powerful pharmaceutical companies dont want us hearing what he has to say.

Syngenta: “Can you test this to see if it’s harmful?” Tyrone: “Yes” Syngenta: “Thank you, we’ll fund your research” Tyrone: “Yeah it’s harmful” Syngenta: “Actually we don’t think you’re very credible anymore”

We met and talked at the Environmental Estrogen seminars at Tulane Medical School in 2008 or 2009. You are a hero my friend and I share your videos with all my patients and friends.
  • Have to say, putting apart the great message... this man can put up a speech. I'm astounded just by the quality of the performance itself :)

This has been motivating me to truly get into biochemistry and alternative eco-friendly sciences! Extremely! We have a huge water crisis on our hands, and a huge generational dilema that will continue to repeat itself if we do not make a change

“One pair will get you in enough trouble” 😂 man, I love this guy 😆

Everywhere you turn — greed and corruption. Thank you for speaking out to try to protect us as our government turns a blind eye to everything except whoever has the largest wad of cash. It takes no small amount of courage and integrity to do what you’re doing. 🙏🏻

And this is just about ONE pesticide. There are hundreds of other pesticides that cause the same or worse adverse health effect. North America should be called the land of harmful chemicals. We got “rich” by exploiting and rearranging nature, but at what cost?
  • Such an entertaining, informative, and wisdom-filled talk! Thanks Dr. Hayes for this! I will be showing this video to my online sustainable living group meeting. You are absolutely right for advocating on behalf of your research. People don't heed the science anywhere near as often as they should.

This man is the truth!! They know he’s a threat to their agenda; this will also affect them financially once people wakeup and discover the truth!

Dr Hayes, thank you very much for your continued diligence, in research and your efforts to inform those of us who, would not otherwise be aware, of how much our environment is being poisoned by wealthy conglomerates at the expense of the proletariat (we the people). I have no expendable cash to contribute however, I am willing to spread the word with your guidance and I look forward to learn how do we protect our health in light of the ill deeds of these corporations. Thank you once again.
