Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.

The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.

By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

He's basically my internet Dad. Any time I need life advice, there he is. We are so fortunate to have his presence.
  • @bruceboome
That was powerful, even by JBP's standards. What is even more astonishing is that he's able to deliver a speech like that without notes. This voice has arisen to meet the needs of the time.

I was lucky enough to be there in person. The whole audience was hanging on every word of his speech. I heard multiple graduates discussing the impact and greatness of this speech. Dr Peterson is a gift to all of us in a trying time. His words prompt us to look within ourselves first and then go out to make the world a better place. Thank you Dr Peterson

"It was so hard. But it was worth it." -Dr. Jordan B. Peterson Im sobbing. I love this man😭.
  • Any college who wants their students to learn life's lessons and wisdom from Jordan Peterson says a great deal about the quality of that college. That was so inspirational.
  • The best thing about this guy's speeches is that he takes you on a journey throughout the speech. He starts with a very general topic and then just wanders down a variety of paths, none of which you knew were connected to the original point until he ties them all together at the end.
  • My University held its commencement ceremony for the class of 2022 earlier today. After listening to endless rants from my school's administrators comprised of nothing but the severity of the climate crisis, the pervasiveness of systemic racism, and their insistence that we, "challenge the system," JP's speech is an absolute breath of fresh air. His encouragement and laser-focus on looking inward and examining all the flaws in oneself, particularly when we are facing uncertainty and change, are so much more meaningful and profound.

How do we ever repay the good this man has brought? He fixed my broken heart.
  • No matter where I am, what I’m doing, or who I’m around, when I hear this mans voice break, and feel the emotion emanating from his beautiful soul, tears run uncontrollably down my cheeks. He causes me to reflect on my life, and seriously examine who I think I am, who I want to be, and why I’m not the man I am capable of being. Thank you Dr. Peterson!

Forget other commencement speeches. In the future, colleges should play this address for their graduates every single year. Young people need to hear this message.
  • @debhig
I want to leave this commencement speech for my children when it's my time to go. There is no better parental wisdom that I could leave to them. "The Devil's At The Crossroad", do you aim up or down? Have Faith to look and aim upward. Thank you, Hillsdale, for this timeless legacy to your graduates.

It’s amazing Mr Peterson only became famous after his 50th year on Earth, his is a voice that was waiting, waiting on everyone else to realize his genius! He didn’t become famous because he wanted to, but because the world needed him too!
  • @vanessa271
Jordan Peterson is forever a legend. I'm grateful to live during his lifetime and to experience his teachings.
  • @michaelc.3812
My last graduation was three decades and several years ago, but I watched, listened, and was moved. And I was moved to tears, considering that I didn’t get to hear this at my last graduation. Amen, Dr. Peterson, amen.
  • @HScripturez
I’m graduating tomorrow from a private Christian college. You want to talk about sacrifice? What I’d give to have this man deliver my commencement address is beyond me. He has been an instrumental force in my life for years now and I wish everyone who has gone through similar experiences as me could learn from him as I have.
  • I love how at the very end he just says “oh….. thank you” almost as if he’s woken up from a divine trance, it’s like his thoughts are that powerful. What a legend!!
  • @essm4179
Listened to Mr. Peterson with my High School son at his San Jose,CA event 3 weeks ago. The following week, my son & I visited Hillsdale campus. Now, Mr Peterson is at Hillsdale! :) Awesome
  • Peterson perfectly embodies the power of story telling; when you speak truth and simultaneously portray it through the narrative of the human experience, it is profound.
  • @islanderws
As a long time Christian I really enjoyed the way Dr. Peterson told biblical stories from a psychologist perspective. Different but effective. I love this man and his work...
  • “Deep meaning needed to sustain us through tragedy.” Brilliant.
